Teen agrees to paternity test
DAWN CHAN
TEENAGER Sow Kien Siong sub mitted his blood sample to the Chemistry Department for a pa ternity test, in the hope of settling the dispute with his girl friend who claims he isn’t the father of their child.
Yesterday, the 18-year-old odd job labourer from Setapak, ac companied by his mother, Yen Chau Fong, visited a clinic in Petaling Jaya at 9am to extract a sample of his blood.
With certification from the doc tor, both mother and son went to the Chemistry Department in Jalan Sultan, Petaling Jaya, where they met serology/DNA section head Lim Kong Boon to hand over the blood sample for the paternity test.
Sow, speaking at the MCA Pub lic Services and Complaint De partment yesterday, said the Chemistry Department had, on humanitarian grounds, waived the DNA test fee of RM1,700. He was told the results would be out in two weeks.
“If it is proven that the baby is mine, I will fight this matter in court. Otherwise, I will demand an apology from my girlfriend for causing me distress, heartache and for trying to make me believe that the baby is my son so that she can marry me,” said Sow.
“I would like to discuss the matter with my girlfriend and see how we can come to an amicable settlement. I do not want people butting into our problem any more.”
Sow added that the initial plan of him getting rights to see the baby twice a month should be scrapped, considering that the girl had failed to honour her pledge on the first visit which should have taken place on Nov 10.
MCA Public Services and Com plaint Department head Datuk Mi chael Chong reiterated that he did not take sides but was only trying to resolve the dispute.
He also discounted Seputeh MP Teresa Kok’s claims that he had failed to handle this matter pro fessionally.
“That is not true. I did the right thing. I stressed to Sow that chil dren under seven should be with their mother and he agreed with me. I don’t see anything wrong with that.
“I do not wish to prolong this matter anymore and I agree with Kok, who has been helping the girl, that this matter should come to a stop. Moreover, I have more important things to do,” he said.
the root of the problem is down to poor sex education and immature thinking and lack of self control.
just wonder how many youths out there lack the ability to decide the consequence of their action
