Sau Seng Lam is a charitable Buddhist organisation which offers affordable treatment for poor patients who suffer from diabetes and stroke. They have a centre in PJ and one in Puchong.
Diabetes and stroke are often described as “rich people’s diseases” and very costly to treat. After visiting Sau Seng Lam and understanding their work, one has to give credit and take our hats off to the nun Shi Chang Heng who organised the centre.
On 12th April 2009, Easter Sunday, I was actually quite reluctant to attend functions as that was a holy day. However, I agreed to attend the opening ceremony of the Diabetes and Strokes One Stop Center of Sau Seng Lam as they had called my office many times to urge me to attend the opening ceremony.
In my speech, I said the work of Sau Seng Lam was great as they had saved many lives and many have received affordable health care and treatment. I also urged more medical professionals to come forward to do community work by creating awareness and assisting charitable organisations like Sau Seng Lam.
YB Dato’ Seri Ong Ka Chuan was there, and I noticed they addressed him as Member of Parliament and not as minister. 🙂
Both he and I were invited to give speeches. Ong looked quite calm considering the change in his position. He still attended this function and faced the people as an MP.
After the opening ceremony, all of us were invited to enjoy vegetarian meals at the cafeteria. Ong only came in when I had finished my lunch. I know why, he was surrounded by the media after the opening ceremony. The media was not interested in the opening of the diabetes and stroke one stop centre. They appear more interested in him and his new position as an ordinary Member of Parliament.
When I watched the TV8 Mandarin news later, he said he had tendered his resignation after he lost his position in the MCA party election. He seems to have accepted the situation very well.
Yes, power and position can leave us any time. Most important that we should try and bring as much change as we can when we are still in the position to do so. Then, we should have no regrets after we step down…
Teresa, it great to see you here. I appreciate your tireless effort to help the rakyat.
Thank you.
AS for Eliz Wong, a great welcome for her. Its great to have her back after so long. The rakyat need her like you, to make this country a better place for everyone.
Just do not let a few of those despicable idiots in BN especially that greedy, foulmouth and unethical bum KT disrupt all your good work.
Just continue doing what you two ladies have been doing. The rakyat will support you all thru thick and thin IRRESPECTIVE.
Doing charity work and engaged in social chores for the poor, the sick and the needy are universal values that we all greatly appreciate and highly grateful for.
YB, carry on all the good work and human deeds that you have done all this while and God will bless you always. All the best in your endeavours!
Heroes like Shi Chang Heng should be recognised and supported.
It pains me to the bone to read in Chinese newspapers that an old woman have to support her mentally retarded children while quite weak physically herself.
Malaysia, in addition to having orphanage, hospice and old folks home, should consider having well equipped, well manned asylum for the mentally ill to take the load off their parents/siblings/children.
It won’t cost much, not as much as MIG-29s, submarines, crooked bridges and KLCC. It sickens me to the core when I see people have to give up their lives for someone mentally ill and part of their blood line.
Darn those department heads who purchase RM1,000 screw drivers.
