Satu Lagi ‘Projek’ DAP Seputeh :-)

Posted on Wednesday, 05-12-2007Wednesday, 05-12-2007 by Teresa

This is the second press conference called by the Kg Taiyu squatters committee members themselves. I reminded them to thank Samy Vellu too.

Background story of Kg Taiyu

Kg Taiyu was originally situated at the place which was next to Salak Sout New Village. When the government decided to build the Besraya Highway (toll way), the affected squatters in Kg Taiyu have signed an agreement with concessionaire, Besraya Sdn Bhd in year 1998. The agreement specified that Employee Provident Fund (KWSP) will build a low cost flat for them and will sell to them at the price of RM25,000. The flat supposed to be ready by year 2000. The contract also said that while they were waiting for the flat to be ready for them, each household will be paid allowance of RM300 per month for 30 months.

However, 30 months later, only a few pillars emerged at the site where the flats supposed to be built. I then championed for them since year 2000. What I managed to fight for them is the RM300 which has been stopped, so each time when I made noise in the Parliament, LLM will pump in some money into their bank account, i.e. RM300 allowance for about half a year or a year, the rental allowance resumed and stopped for quite a period until YTL be appointed by KWSP to be the contractor to build the low cost flats for them few years ago.

When the flats were under construction, we were told by LLM that the government will sell to them at the price of RM42,000 and not RM25,000 as stipulated in the contract. This was in line with the price of low cost houses set by the Selangor state government. The squatters strongly disagreed. I then helped them to get a lawyer to fight for them in court. In the meantime, I protested it numerous time in the Parliament, till the officers of public works ministry were so familiar with this issue and they always have the ‘ready made’ answer for the minister or deputy minister to reply to me.

After that, I approached the Works Minister Samy Vellu, I reminded him about this issue each time I saw him in the Parliament lobby. Finally, he instructed his LLM officers to heed my request by submitting a cabinet paper and sought assistance from consessionaire Besraya Sdn Bhd, and the approval was given by Cabinet in October this year.

The Star’s report is here.

Good to hear that you’re doing your job.

I notice that you emphasize “I I I” a lot, don’t think the Star has credited you enough eh? 🙂

Election time so goemn must have something to show. Note that there is still time between now and time people can move in. Things can still go wrong.

Star dun credit Teresa in words but the pix tells more as the banner’s writing was clear.

Even the toll rate increaser name was not mentioned in the report.

Well done YB. I dun see UMNO MPs do things like this or is it lousy reporting by papers under Zainuddin’s charges?

Satu lagi project berjaya oleh Sassy MP. Congratulations.

But how about some compensation for the damage caused including for the delays and inconvenience caused for the 10 years? Ah. Maybe that will be asking too much. We must be satisfied with crumbs.
