hmm…the image looks like a cross between a Mao Tze Tung’s motivational posters in the 50’s or Chow Yuen Fatt’s God of Gambler movie poster or Graham Poll sending off Steven Gerrard in a Liverpool vs Manchester United encounter.
Happy new year to Teresa, your family and friends, all Pakatan chaps celebrating CNY, as well as all readers and commentators…happy holidays
I have read Singapore’s Straits Time about its economic stimulus package and let’s see:
Malaysia allocated RM70billion for 26 million people, that’s RM2.7K per person; IGNORING the distribution aspect of the distribution
Comparatively, Singapore allocated, via their Finance Minister, THARMAN SHANMUGARATNAM, S$20.5 billion to 4.6 of its population, applying conversation rate of RM2.3 to S$1, it’s a whopping RM10K per person.
Let’s look at allocation.
For Malaysia, some of the 70billion was allocated via the great Kuala Terengganu lucky draw and dead man’s ang pow give away.
In Singapore, previously untapped reserves kept by a tight fist government is finally pried out to aid it’s tax payers
1) personal income tax rebate of 20% up to S$2,000 and in addition, working parents double GST tax credit
2) retired couple living with a working child in a 3 room HDB will get $4,500 while a family of 4 working living in a 5 room HDB gets S$2,200
3) in addition to cutting corp tax by 1% to 17%, property tax rebate of 40% is given to landlords of factories, offices and shops to save them S$800 million which is intended to lower rental charge to lessees
4) low income workers will get better worker benefits and the destitute will receive more in monthly Public Assistance Payments; more funding to charities and welfare organisations; A$150million will go to low wage workers in the form of special workfare payouts
5) all government fees and charges will be frozen for a year to help cut down cost of business
6) employers paying CPF will get 12% rebate on the first S$2,500 of each months wages for each employees
7) S$5.8billion to be used as trade financing as the government will take up 80% of the credit risk, in view of the credit crunch faced by Singapore’s financial institution, this is enable companies to obtain a different financing source
Sigh, there are so much more. Najib, have you bought a copy of the Straits Time?
Sorry, the above should be RM7billion and not RM70billion so it is about RM200++ for you, me and our loved ones….does that not make you feel like a million bucks?!
Dear YB Teresa Kok,
Dear Bro Lee Wee Tak,
I hope you all heard the “Pareto Principle” – 80/20 rules. And applying that rule with some logic reasoning, I just have THREE comments that must be done.
a) The 7 Billion stimulus package or whatever “Boleh” Packages that the BN govt would propose. I sincerely doubt that any of the Non-Bumi workers that are walking on the streets WILL EVER feel its effect. Therefore is better for them to let the petrol price come down to the market price or FULFILL the promises of keeping the subsidy to RM0.30 so the cost of living of this trying times will gradually reduce and benefit all walks and all races of Malaysian. At RM1.80, is still over-charging.
b) As UNEMLOYMENT rates would soon to increase inline with possible crime rates, I have written to YB Teresa many times that, Seputeh must have a Rukun-Tetangga kinda of things. And the DAP office is best to organize and execute it. It is for the Rakyat and by this way, not only PR gain momentum but the Rakyat in Seputeh will also benefit. I am a commoner staying in Happy Garden for 30 years and there were so many snatch thieves, robberies, house thefts and so many un-reported. Having this Rukun-Tetangga would not prevent ALL but will definitely keep the rates low. A “Semangat Kejiranan” must be nurtured now and DAP can be the main catalyst!
c) Lessen the Rakyat’s burden, since their income maybe affected during this World Economic downturn (maybe except Malaysia). Since government cant control or help our in-flow of income BUT they could help us reduce the out-flow of income like reducing parking rates ( there are so many installed outside), lower indirect taxes, lower electirc tarrifs, review water pricing, reduce toll charges etc. Is dissapointing that the BN Govt always claims they are for the Rakyay. Many of us gets too tired with their lips service, that is one of the reason of this Political Tsunami during March 8th.
So just do the above 3, you will see so much betterment for ALL MALAYSIANS rather than the 7 Billion “Boleh” Packages that I doubt no one will ever know how and where the exact amount being spend.
I used that P principal in accounting and internal controls issue more but I can see your point, 80% of the gravy trains stop at 20% of the train stations.
that’s why I prefer the Guan Eng approach, give money to household in Malaysia and let the multipler effect takes its course, if it doesn’t work, at least everybody got a little something.
as for the crime thing, it is a serious indictment of PDRM, good at bashing up cornered individuals & candle holders but hopeless in preventing more wide spread crime waves.
denying productive citizens needed sleep will affect their productivity and result in health issues as well as accidents.
since the military is the biggest, or 1 of the biggest, consumer of financial resources of tax payers, why not get them to patrol crime infested area? the benefit is
1) better return on tax payers’ money
2) better protection for citizens
3) good training for future UN peace keeping operations
This has been done before. back in the 1880’s when train robbery was rampant in the US, army and marines were placed on trains as guards. it stopped the maligned scourge and why not take a leaf?
Great job so far YB. Kindly impact the sincere ones to concentrate on the voice and concern of the people now.
