Parti Cinta Sabah pulls out of local Sabah alliance

Posted on Tuesday, 02-05-2017 by -ec-

By leaving the alliance, PCS hopes it can play an important role in facilitating formal discussions with all opposition parties in Sabah to form a grand opposition alliance.

PETALING JAYA: Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) has pulled out of the five-party local opposition group Gabungan Sabah or United Sabah Alliance (USA).

PCS president Wilfred Bumburing said the party supreme council decided to leave the two-year-old coalition so that it can better facilitate a better working relationship with all Sabah opposition parties to achieve straight fights against the ruling government.

“The PCS supreme council members were unanimous in their opinion that parties within the Gabungan are not united in the quest for regime change; some want to have political cooperation only after the elections,” Bumburing said in a statement after the supreme council meeting here today.

“With the current state of affairs within Gabungan, we will not be able to achieve that objective,” he said.

Bumburing hoped that by leaving the local coalition, PCS could play a prominent and important role in facilitating formal discussions with all opposition parties in Sabah to form a grand opposition alliance.

The exit of PCS from the five-party coalition was widely anticipated following speculation that the party was likely to team up with Parti Warisan Sabah led by Mohd Shafie Apdal and national-based opposition parties DAP and PKR.

The USA alliance consisted of PCS, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Sabah STAR) led by Jeffrey Kitingan, Sabah Progressive Party led by Yong Teck Lee, Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah led by Lajim Ukin and Parti Perpaduan Rakyat Sabah (PPRS) led by Arshad Abdul Mualap.
