The Star
THE DEBATE on Low Siew Moi’s appointment as acting head of PKNS is disappointing.
The basis of any appointment must be merit. Anything else is abuse of power.
If Low is the best person for the job, her ethnic background is simply irrelevant.
I read a few days ago that there have been complaints from various political quarters.
Perhaps I could understand if the complaints were from those in nationalist political parties. They are nationalists after all.
But for some people claiming to be from Islamic organisations to also complain is a disgrace.
Pure and utter disgrace for the religion of Islam which teaches its followers that the definition of justice is “putting the right person at the right place”.
This episode also shows why we need to stop allowing politicians to make appointments to bodies like the PKNS.
If this practice continues, we will see again cases where the best person for a job faces a glass ceiling because of nothing else but politics.
Bodies like the PKNS should be run as efficient businesses free from political concerns and state interference, not as platforms to allow politicians to give handouts for political appointees.
WAN SAIFUL WAN JAN,
Editor,
www.WauBebas.org,
Wan Saiful is Malay Malaysian and works for for a think-tank in London. He holds a Masters in Research Methodologies and BA in Management. Earlier, he was educated at Sekolah Alam Shah in Cheras and Tonbridge School in Kent before moving on to the University of Liverpool. He can be reached at [email protected]
It feels good to have some real good malays who are non-racialitic, realistic and fair. Zaid and Wan saiful are good examples.
However, it is disgusting and sad to know that we still have a big bunch of racialistic, greedy and arrogant bums still lurking in Umno creating racial, stupid etc….issues for the rakyat.
I sincerely hope malays like these two to come out and voice their opinions to the rakyat.
Our country need to progress and move forward.
Time is not on our side.
Business and politics does not mix, otherwise you get vested interests all over the place. Once that happens, you might as well close shop.
Well zztop, you have your right over your opinion. And ws is right on the definition of justice according to Islamic teaching. But for him to say that it was utter disgrace for Islamic organisation to complain, shows that : 1. may be he got the wrong information, 2. he dont understand Islamic teaching at all.
In the first place why is he so hard-up on Islamic organisation? If he is a muslim, it is natural for him to support an Islamic organisation. If he diagree, he shouldnt expressed it to non Islamic organisation. He must abide to another teaching of Islam, that is to conform with whatever decision unless and until he could persuade the Islamic organisation to see what he sees.
I think, this prinsip of confirmity is duly applied by all organisation, whether Islamic or non-Islamic.
It is easy to say someone is a goon, but we must make sure we do not behave like one.
Happy living. Time is always with the muslims.
Well Khalid, for one thing I am not a religious man.
MY contention is that religion, politics and skin colour or whatever else CANNOT MIX TOGETHER in order to progress and forward thinking, irrespective. You can also have your right to your opinion.
Just take a look at the whole world today.
Which countries are moving forward and progress??
Yes, everbody have a right on their opinion but to quote some malay opinion in (sorry to say Chinese MP) this blog i found it inappropriate because it’s seem like you non-malay want us malays to fight each other. This is no good. Just let Selangor MB make his decision but because this opinon is open for argument, lets argue again.
“religion of Islam which teaches its followers that the definition of justice is “putting the right person at the right place”.This definition very subjective because can you explain what is the criteria of right person because if base on Islam, the right person is the “Imam” because Imam here doesn’t mean just for prayer but Imam means the leader with good quality such as honest that can lead their follower, just like our Tuan Guru Nik Aziz, he a imam (dunia and akhirat) and this Mdm. Moi is she a good Leader or just a follower or just a “walking dictionary”.
And as for Wan Saiful, i hope he received education opportunity base on merit not race. This what happen to Malay, “Melayu mudah Lupa” because very seldom we heard Chinese or Indian willing to give their right or benefit to others.
Orang Malaysia,
“because very seldom we heard Chinese or Indian willing to give their right or benefit to others.”
– I am not criticising you but giving some examples for you as I assume you might not have notice the sacrifices Chineses or Indians do for this country
– by the way, why should anybody in Malaysia “give their right or benefit” to other people? We should work hard to enlarge the economic cake so that everybody can enjoy. Give up right and benefit sounds negative; I prefer “work together so we can have more”
Chinese and Indians do not give up benefit eh?
1) local uni intake. Known fact that Chinese or Indians with higher scores can’t get into local unis paid for by their dads and mums via tax money
2) balloting for IPO, 30% for bumi, the unsuccessful bumi application will get into the ballot for the second time
3) 7% discount in house purchases for bumi (whether or not it is a rich bumi buying a RM500K bangalow or RM40,000 low cost house) – the developer will allocate the lost revenue to non-bumi lot
4) PSD scholarship, money comes from all tax payers but the award of scholarship is lopsided, race composition wise
I am not inciting anything. I am already numb about all this. I am just letting facts known since you brought this up.
Again, I stress. It is NEGATIVE to tell one race to GIVE UP something for another. That’s infringing other people’s right. Malaysia is a rich and wonderful place on earth. If the country is administered properly, there are so much to be shared around.
Sad to see, this blog and any other blogs, always the same discussion over malay rights. A nation which does not look beyond race will be doomed. America has for the first time looked beyond race and elect a black president on the basis of popular support and had a convincing win over his opponent.
We Malaysian should also looked beyond race. Look at capability, honesty and transparency. The ongoing UMNO election has shown how corrupt is the current federal regime. Even the kelantan prince has commented on the money that was requested. I suppose Malaysian doesn’t mind or perhaps the malays themselves do not feel anything wrong about the money culture of the ruling political party I guess. Its not Ketuanan Melayu is the issue, its the abused of the rights for the benefit of a few individuals which is a contentious subject.
khairi ali, you said “He must abide to another teaching of Islam, that is to conform with whatever decision unless and until he could persuade the Islamic organisation to see what he sees.”
I think you have seriously confused Islam with communism.
Wan.
I’m glad our Chinese friend agreed on Malay or bumi should not give up their right or benefit to others because it is negative or violate other people right. It’s a fact Chinese in Malaysia are ahead than Malay or Indian even with limited benefit and because of that Malaysia is not ready for statement ” work together so we can have more” because with current pace it’s look like Malay and Indian still working for Chinese “the towkay”.
We, Malay and Chinese should help our Indian that still far behind such as Malay to give some of their right to Indian and Chinese to give something to Indian and Malay such as larger amount of money via tax 🙂
And after we almost on the same pace and then maybe we can talk about working together without special benefit to enlarge the economic cake so that everybody can enjoy.
Hey, even US took decades to have African-American President.
Ask MCA,
1. Are you commit a ‘must’ on Low Siew Moi’s appointment as acting head of PKNS?
2. Why previously didn’t realize your intention (or guts) to confront UMNO before 308?
3. Or why not discuss this issue in parliament, only arguing in front of us?
Stop N.A.T.O, prove it and show us!
Or else, stop it!
TQ.
Warmest regards.
1.Wan Saiful, please get out of syllogism kind of logic. Just because of one similarity, you equate it as the same. Its un-scientific.
2. Wee Tat : Its all in the policy. Until and unless the winning parties that form the government diasgree, then you may see some amendments. And of course they have their reasons.
3. I think its to soon to say anything on Obamas achievement. Blacks, in the past and presently, are still on the platform of revolution, starting since the days of Martin Luther King. Right now, the idea of having a leader noted for civil rights, may be good for US, since the country was and is very naughty against the blacks. They have a thousand more hurdles to jump. But in Malaysia, who do not practiced that kind of discrimination like the US, a leader of civil rights will be quite hard to make his way. In this sense, I do agree with Wee Tat, that ‘working together’ should be the rule of the day.
Anyway, guys, keep it up. At least we are better than those in the parliments, creating commotion for nothing!
During US President election,
Rais Yatim said “saya sokong Obama! we’re (umno) no racist !”
What if Obama contesting for PM in M’sia?
Rais, will u sokong too?
After Obama won US President election,
PM said “minority in M’sia can b PM too”
Tapi
PKNS isu when a non-malay appointed as ‘Acting GM’ je, umno make it an National Racist isu !!!!
i think if Obama contesting for PM in M’sia, rejim racist umno will put him under ISA for his ‘Personal Safety’
If he has won, will b install as M’sia PM in Kamunting camp & do his national ‘bznes’ there with those opposition MP under ISA.
I have post a blogger comments here. It is specially for our self claim “great” and “upright’ “hairi” ali :-
“That sleepy flip flop lame duck guy is mumbling again. This time he mumbled that anyone from minority can become PM!!. What a joke la. As long as you have that bunch of racialistic, greedy and brainless bums running the country there is NO way, I repeat NO way that anyone from the minority group can even become DPM not to mention PM. PM from minority group, my foot.
Just look at the PKNS GM issue. The sleepy guy did not even whimper a comment. These bums cant even accept a minority for a post in a GLC (mind you, only TEMPORARY), you folks think that they will accept anyone from a minority group to become even a DPM, not to mention a PM. The sun will rise from the west if it ever happen. Even a dumb dumb will know the answer.
But just you wait, later he will not only flip flop on what he said, he will also deny he has said this. Actually I have been misquoted etc…… thousand and one reasons.
I strongly recommend he start forming “empat se-kawan” clowns when he retires. You can bet, I will be the first one to patronise.
Look, till todate what has been done for the country when he proudly promised before he step down. Only a couple of months left now. A BIG FAT ZERO.”
If we as ‘Bangsa Malaysia’ cannot step away from race, gender and religion, one wonders for the future of Malaysia as a united country and a united people. The appointment of Low Siew Moi is for the good of PKNS and the state. MB Khalid Ibrahim had stated that she was the best person for the job and holding the fort only temporarily. Why was there so much fuss? We should take a leaf from the white-majority US where the President-elect is an African-American in the person of Barack Obama in the recently concluded Presidential Elections.
Dear all, let Low Siew Moi work on her position few months 1st then only we give comment whether she is the suitable person for it or not.
