KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8: DAP vice-chairman Teresa Kok said that there are many factors that would affect the outcome of the next General Election (GE14) and everything Malaysian’s see now may change by GE14.

“Our Malaysian politics is so fragile it feels like god is shaking up our country.

“All you see now, by the time the next General Election comes, so many things might change,” Kok told The Malaysian Times (TMT) in a recent interview.

She said that “of course” DAP is not prepared yet for GE14 as there are five crucial factors that could affect its outcome.

“Firstly, what would be our constituencies is it going to be cut up as proposed by SPR (Election Commission of Malaysia) as that would also determine our victory and failure.

“Second factor, they are victimizing Rafizi Ramli, Lim Guan Eng, Tian Chua and many others, where they all might be charged and go to jail, all of this would affect our support and affect BN as well. Which might actually increase our support as people would view this as injustice against the opposition.

“Then, will (Datuk Seri) Anwar Ibrahim be released, if he comes out that would be a different ball game.

“Four, this Bersih rally, if there is going to be bloodshed, especially if Umno is behind it and if people sustain injuries and die, that would also affect the country politics and nowadays with citizen journalism, when all these things can be produced and proofed.

“Five, let’s say if there is another disaster or plane crash or maybe natural disaster, “banjir besar” (massive flooding), that would also have a really big impact,” listed Kok to TMT.

Pakatan Harapan Convention

Kok then acknowledged PAS having been invited to the Pakatan Harapan Convention this November 12 and on whether DAP would be willing to work with PAS.

“We have to wait and see if anyone would come, and you see that PAS and (PAS leader) Datuk Seri Hadi Awang has been making conflicting statements over the past few weeks.

She said it started with them not wanting to work with DAP or any other political party that have to do with DAP.

Kok said until last week where Hadi said that he is open to having a one on one fight with Barisan Nasional.

“I really don’t know what they want, every day they keep coming up with confusing statements and different stands. If for me PAS should be clear of what they want.

“Nik Abduh (PAS Youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz) said “jangan Kacau rumah”, then we can work with DAP.

“Where got we “kacau rumah”, we have already said that Hudud is not part of Pakatan Rakyat’s demands.

“Then who raised the whole issue, PAS. After the 2013 General Election PAS raised it and broke their promise,” said the Seputeh MP.

When questioned if Parti Pribumi Bersatu will manage to convince PAS to join ranks with the opposition, she said she is not sure.

“You see why, because Bersatu will be focused on the 88 seats that is being held by UMNO now, if you check it out, it has been UMNO versus PAS or Umno versus PKR in those seats, then now Amanah also will come in.

“Then PAS has to agree, PKR has to agree, now so will Amanah and Bersatu if they are willing to share.

“DAP is not an issue, only PAS makes DAP looks like an issue,” said Kok

PAS faith

Kok said that she is not sure in one year or so what would happen to PAS.

“You look at Amanah within one year they can get over 200,000 members, these are mostly PAS members and you look at Datuk Husam Musa, they are working very aggressively in Kelantan now, so we don’t know what will happen,” said Kok.

When questioned why the sudden change in PAS’ directions, Kok said: “I think they started to worry.”

She said that after the Sungai Besar by-election result PAS would have realised that with this kind of support that they will lose seats.

“I tell you now, it’s not that DAP won’t work with them and all that.

“It’s just that our stand, if they agree with our federal constitution that Malaysia is a circular state, we do not want Hudud, we do not want an Islamic state. We want to maintain status quo as what Malaysia was established in 1957,” said Kok.
