This morning my assistant Edmund, my two interns and I went to the Court of Appeal for my appeal against the High Court’s decision on my ISA detention in September 2008. I was detained under the ISA over the false accusation against me that I had opposed azan of a mosque in Bandar Kinrara.
In short, the police arrested me and detained me for 7 days before carrying out investigations. This was one of the challenges I faced when the Pakatan Rakyat came to power in Selangor in 2008.
I then sued the then Minister of Home Affairs Dato Syed Hamid Albar, the Malaysian government and the Royal Malaysian Police for the unjustifiable and unreasonable detention. The High Court judge Datuk Su Geok Yam made the decision in favour of the police and ordered me to pay RM50K as court cost to the government.
My lawyer Sankara Nair then helped me to file the appeal to the Court of Appeal and the case was heard today.
There were submissions by my lawyer and the DPP on argument on law. I must say that I was happy with the submission of my lawyer. My confidence has increased at the end of the hearing. The court will announce the decision later.
I was praying throughout the hearing. I will continue to pray for justice to be done on my ISA detention.
