Today, the TDRA Carnival & Run 2015 was organized successfully in Taman Desa.
When I arrived Faber Tower at 6.25am , I saw more than 50 people gathered at the starting point of the marathon run. I was very impressed with all these early birds. This shows they are serious marathon runners.
MP for Segambut, Lim Lip Eng arrived quite early to participate in the run. He is a serious runner who has been participating in various marathon runs.
After flagging off the runners of 7km category at 7am, Dato Loga, the deputy minister of FT and I then flagged off the 3.5km category at 7.30am. He and I then took the opportunity to walk with the participants of 3.5km category. We took 35 minutes to complete the 3.5km route.
Many runners and the Taman Desa residents then stayed back to shop at the various stalls in the carnival. Most of the products and food were donated by various sponsors. So majority of the proceeds will go towards the construction cost of the houses for the flood victims in Kelantan.
Dato Loga told me that he came for this function because he supported the objectives of this event by the Taman Desa Residents Association, i.e. to build houses for the Kelantan’s flood victims who are still living in the tents after the flood last year.
I stayed back in the carnival and helped to promote the sales of the product till the end of the event at 2pm. Many stalls have had good sales. I personally spent a few hundred ringgit to purchase food and utility items for my family too.
It was a successful event. I believe TDRA can raise more than RM100K through this event, which means 2 permanent houses for the flood victims.
Congratulations to TDRA and all the volunteers who have been working tirelessly in the last few weeks. You all have done a good job, perhaps you all can organise similar programs to help the poor again next year :-))
