I have not been issuing statements for quite some time. Not that I don’t have anything to say. Just that I have been “speechless” looking at many ridiculous issues that are happening before our eyes.
I wonder how many people in the streets are aware of the direction the country is heading. It is quite frightening if we take a closer look.
Fitch Rating has downgraded its rating for Malaysia yet the Prime Minister is beating around the bush and trying to justify the lower mark. Fitch Rating deals with the way the government handles finances of the country. It also reminds us of how the international community looks at issues that are happening here.
If you are a foreigner, how do you look at the way these issues are being handled in Malaysia after General Elections? Things like, but not limited to: sabotage of Jonker Street in Melaka by the state government, Vatican’s ambassador being crucified due to his personal remarks on the “Allah” issue, bloggers being intimidated and charged, non-Muslim students asked to eat in changing room in school during Ramadhan month, teacher asked non-Muslim students to go back to China and India, a love story movie with the Chinese New Village background being ordered to stop screening as it was supposedly “glorifying the Communists”, a dog trainer being detained for allegedly insulting Islam.
When UMNO election is around the corner, the earth shakes, frogs can fly and the cow can jump over the moon. And the BN-controlled media will go the extra mile to make you believe these things happen and only Umno leaders can walk on water. The UMNO politicians who want to score points and garner support in this election want to project themselves as champion of the Malay race and draw in religion to spice the deal. The attempt to de-register the DAP is Umno’s latest game in town. A terribly sick game.
Is this the kind of politics and the kind of direction we want Malaysia to be heading?
Malaysia is a small economy, even in South East Asia region. We won’t be able to do well without foreign investment and trade, nor if foreign tourists skip Malaysia.
I hope all our government and UMNO leaders can look out from under the coconut shell and deal with the problems we are facing, problems that foreigners can clearly see but our jaguh kampung cannot.
