Traffic enforcement system should not be commercialised nor privatised

Posted on Thursday, 18-10-2012 by Teresa Kok's Office

Press statement by Teresa Kok, Member of Parliament for Seputeh at Kuala Lumpur on 18th October, 2012

The Transport Ministry has snubbed public opinion and stubbornly proceeded with the execution and installation of Automated Enforcement System (AES) cameras.

The implementation of the system is not transparent and its effectiveness is doubtful. This is why there is bipartisan support among MPs calling for the review of the system.

Instead of listening to the public concerns, Transport Minister Kong Cho Ha is lecturing road users, telling them to be more understanding and reasonable to reduce the high numbers of road accident.

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri added during the debate on the Supply Bill 2013 in Dewan Rakyat yesterday that “it is up to the road users to beat the system”. It is obvious that Kong and Abdul Rahim did not given proper attention to the public interest.

It is improper to outsource or privatise the enforcement and implementation of the AES to two private companies when the terms of the concessionaires are not made public.

Having heavy fines alone is not the practical way to bring down accident rates when road users are already struggling to make ends meet in their daily life.

The Ministry should consider other measurements, for example, put more road bumps, yellow lines as a warning to reduce speed, micro-bumps, and ensure proper roads maintenance is carried out.

I want the Transport Minister to reconsider the implementation of the AES.

First our Transport Minister and all our BN Ministers must return to school, preferably Henry Gurney school to be rehabilitated and taught that to steal is wrong and to steal from ordinary folk, their families and seven generations will be struck with bad luck so bad that they are better off being tadpoles.

We are letting kids drive on roads, our motorcyclists are just begging to get killed and every joker in town has three cars with no road to go. Our sly government is into selling as many cars as possible to line their pockets with AP monies, and support HP6 cars like Proton.

We have literally no public transport, our railway system was murdered the moment the British left and our taxi drivers are rogues.

We have a conniving government who take advantage of the situation to put a crony traffic system to milk them off even more monies by way of traffic summonses.

When it comes to corruptive methodology to cheat and plunder our BN politicians need no tutoring. Must be in their DNA. Our country has been continuously run by thieves but only after the internet the rakyat is waking up from their slumber. But we deserve this government. For we just don’t have the gall nor courage like the Egyptians and more ominously the Libyans and Syrians to actually go for the kill. The way they hunted down Gaddafi speaks volumes of the hate and derision the people there had for him. Malaysia is edging closer to the abyss. And all that we see today maybe just a dream.

Well, another way is for motorists not to break the traffic laws and let the cronies and their cameras sit idle and have all the time of their lives swapping mosquitoes. They will be doing the rakyat a very good favor for getting rid of the pesky pests.

Maybe you can get the Selangor state goverment to follow Penang and Kedah state goverment to delay the implementation of AES in Selangor.

Motorists should know that road accidents causes more fatalities than wars. And most of the accidents are caused by impatient motorists caught speeding like crazy inhighways,or cutting in and out when caught in traffic jams or running the red lights.Road rage is the main causes of accidents.

In the US,one of the more advanced countries in the world, road rages caused by motorists cutting and zigzagging across traffic, and snatching other motorists who were patiently waiting for their parking spots ,have caused unneccessary shooting incidents leading to fatalities.

The best ways is to educate motorists that a few seconds or minutes late,is better than to endure heavy fines or accidents that may caused serious injuries or even deaths. And at the same time depriving Umnoputra cronies from making an extra buck. And let them shoved the non funtioning, idling cameras into their sore abused red, purple and blue black arses.
