The Pakatan Rakyat MPs on July 21 protested against parking meters after being pressured by our constituents. I am dead against parking meters being fixed up every where is because:
i) we are forced to buy cars because our poor transportation system,
ii) to impose parking fees everywhere in KL after petrol price hike is adding salt to injury for most KL folks.
In short, it is very cruel of DBKL to impose this parking system everywhere in the city, particularly in mixed areas where residential units are on top of shop houses and condo near shop areas.
I have made a big banner with the wording “Rakyat Susah, Datuk Bandar Letak Jawatan“. We did the first protest at Pekan Sungai Besi at Tan Sri Khalid’s constituency, and the second protest behind my service center in the same morning. We chose these two areas mainly because Pekan Sg Besi is one of the oldest “township” in Kuala Lumpur, and both Pekan Sg Besi and Kuchai Entrepreneur’s Park are close by.
To have Tan Sri Khalid to join us in the protest is great. All TV stations came and people of all races participated in the protest and the best thing is, the police dared not disperse us because of his position as Menteri Besar of Selangor 🙂
Residents at Pekan Sg Besi presented memorandum to MB of Selangor cum MP for Bandar Tun Razak
This protest held behind my office. The top units of this row of flats are residential units. How can DBKL put parking meter at residential areas?
We used black plastic to wrap up the parking meter 🙂
These are the protest done by Sri Petaling residents in June:

DBKL perlu perjelas isu parkir

Good efforts. It is baffled why a parking meter can be installed where there are mixed residential and office units together. Besides, there are just too many parking meters nowadays. Is profit all that matters this days? To be fair, everyone would like to know what are the benefits of installing a parking meter which will serve the rakyat better in the long run?
The idiots in DBKL are only good for scalping the public.
We were even told that our parking meters charge only 80sen per hour while those in PJ charge 60sen.
This implies that even in a big city like KL, the charges are very low.
What they don’t realise is that previously the local meters can accept even 10sen while now it is at least 80sen for a start.
Also, very frequently, we don’t need parking for one hour.
So, all this is a lot of bullshitting.
Dear YB and All here,
DBKL dont really give a damn or shit to chinese residence area.
Save our time and sit down to watch TV at home better.
You dont pay the ticker they summon you, and then they may Tow your car. You make trouble somemore they will call in the FRU to bash you up properly.
Because is a chinese residence area, is a good chance for them to play the racial card again. Ask our father or grandfathers. They will tell you more!!
Dear Adolf_Napoleon
The mindset of which you have expressed here is why DBKL is what DBKL is today.
I have just seen meters being erected in Taman Danau Desa near to the place which I am currently residing.
Oh boy, am i shocked. Therefore apart from having protest, is there other ways to express my dissatisfaction ?
Dear YB,
I live at Danau Impian apartment in Taman Desa and was shocked to find out that parking meters are being set up outside the apartment yesterday. I find it very ridiculous to implement parking fees in a residential area.
To cope with the increase of petrol prices and rising of living expenses, I have decided to stop renting a parking space in the apartment and park my car outside instead. On a bad day, an empty parking space can only be found far away from the apartment and I have to take a long walk in. Anyway, as long as can save some money to cover the rising living costs, I am totally fine with it. In this case, I just have to put in some extra effort in walking further only.
My hometown is in Seremban and I used to drive back every week. But now I am taking the Komuter instead in order to cut down on my travelling expenses and support the usage of public transportation. Well, at least I am putting much effort in “changing my lifestyle” to cope with the pressure. But if the parking fees is implemented, I will be facing some big problems.
Worse scenario : Parking fees are implemented on Saturdays – half day. And I won’t be around to slot in coins and display the ticket on my car’s dashboard! Sure kena saman lah if like that!
Worst scenario : The machine only accept payment for the maximum of 3 hrs. Who design such a stupid machine? I really pity those who worked at the commercial area nearby as they have to come out every 3 hrs just to pay the parking. This is so troublesome and inconvenient!
Dear YB,
I hope you can look into this matter as it does not affect only me but also to the rest of the residents in the apartment as well. The people are already very pressured by the recent fuel hike and this will only add more pressure and misery into our life!
Thanks.
