No DAP Councillor is ‘illiterate’ as opposed to claim by The Star

Posted on Tuesday, 10-04-2012Tuesday, 10-04-2012 by Teresa Kok's Office

Press Statement by Teresa Kok, Selangor Senior State Exco and

DAP Selangor Chairperson, Shah Alam – 10 April 2012.

The article ‘DAP leaves five in a lurch’ (The Star, 10 April 2012, pg. 25) is weak and defamatory in its natural meaning as it is baseless and indirectly accuses the Selangor State Government and DAP’s leadership as being biased and incompetent. These insinuations, based on an unnamed ‘party source’ for the newspaper, are purely absurd.

The Star’s suggestion that one of the local councillors is ‘illiterate’ and another is a ‘driver of top leaders’ and that they are appointed based on favouritism is far from being true.

Although not all DAP councillors are undergraduates, they are definitely not illiterate. While some councillors may not write or read in vernacular languages, such as Chinese or Tamil, it does not mean that they are illiterate.

It is a far stretch for the newspaper to deduct – especially based on hearsay and source quotes – that councillors are not educated. Even if some councillors may not posses PHDs or Masters degree, this does not prevent them for carrying out their roles effectively.

The DAP has gone through many rounds of consultation with state and local leaders prior to selections being made. Therefore such appointments are not ad-hoc and not without proper scrutiny.

It is certainly unfair towards DAP councillors for The Star to allege such offensive ideas without first conducting some extensive fact check. Or, at the very least, contact the state leaders, and subjects of such slanderous remarks, for comments or offer them the right of reply.

While I understand that the General Election is approaching, and as The Star is owned by the MCA, I would still like to encourage its reporters to carry out their writing and reports truthfully and without favour or malice towards any particular political party.

DAP and the other members of Pakatan Rakyat are doing a fantastic job in Selangor and the other Pakatan held states. Keep it up and keep the momentum going. Regardless of the much expected drivel that comes from the mouths of those who pull the strings at The Star. If MCA, MIC, Gerakan have such well educated members and elected representatives of the rakyat, why did we have to suffer for so long. I am sure with their intelligence and abilities, they could have done something better for the rakyat but sad to say they were just silent and content to let their own constituents be run down election after election. And in return get crumbs and handouts from their political masters -(UMNO). Now when they can sense the wrath of the grassroots, they resort to such childish means. Do not be detracted PR and the concerned rakyat. Vote with one mighty voice to boot them out or at least pare down their majority.Malaysia wioll definitely see better days ahead. When public accountability and the duty of care counts for nothing, the writting is on the wall.SYABAS PAKATAN!

So, UMNO/BN has very highly educated office bearers?
But by some twisted logic, they think that they have a right to run this country like their personal serfdom!
And the taxpayers’ money is a largesse from their grandfather!!!
And their so-called highly qualified top hierarchy forms the cream of the crooks, cheats, liars, adulterers, sex maniacs and such!!!
On the other hand, the PR has equally qualified personnel but they are a world of difference compared to what is found in UMNO/BN!!!
They are by far more honest and have the interests of their constituents and country at heart!
They are quick to help those in their constituencies and have a system of checks and balances to prevent improprieties!
And they don’t churn out stereotypes like the now famous (infamous?) Ms Tow Truck who got royally screwed by the masses!!!!
All in all UMNO/BN is a dismal disgrace!!!!!!
