New Straits Times put words in my mouth

Posted on Wednesday, 11-01-2012Wednesday, 11-01-2012 by -ec-

I just emailed the following to Syed Nazri Syed Harun, Group Editor of New Straits Times:

Subject: False reporting in news report “MCA Youth: Pas acted arbitrarily”

Dear Y Bhg Dato’ Syed Nazri Syed Harun,

Group Editor of New Straits Times,

I regret that the news article “MCA Youth: Pas acted arbitrarily” that was published by the New Straits Times on 10 January 2012, falsely reported statements which I never made. Please refer to the offending article: http://www.nst.com.my/local/politics/mca-youth-pas-acted-arbitrarily-1.30119#ixzz1j145vvVJ

The news article reported:

… Selangor DAP chief Teresa Kok said she hoped things in Selangor would be better with Hasan out of the picture.

“We have to discuss this (Hasan’s position) in the executive council  meeting after the state receives formal notification from Pas.

“Hopefully, things will be better without him,” said Teresa who is also  state executive councillor…

The report above is false and entirely made-up.

When I was asked by reporters to comment on the sacking of Hasan Ali while I was at the DAP National Convention on 8 January 2012 , I had categorically declined to comment stating that this is PAS’s internal matter.

I trust that the New Straits Times values its credibility as an ethical news provider and will take measures to ensure that such false reporting will not reoccur.

Yours sincerely,

Teresa Kok

MCA Youth: Pas acted arbitrarily

KUALA LUMPUR: Pas leader Datuk Dr Hasan Mohd Ali deserved a right to a hearing before he was sacked from the party.

MCA Youth head Datuk Wee Ka Siong said  Pas Syura Council should have hauled Hasan up before a disciplinary panel before making  decision.
“MCA Youth is not defending nor speaking up for Hasan over his sacking.
“Nevertheless, we do question the provision in the Pas constitution allowing the unilateral sacking of its members with immediate effect.
“There was ample time to convene proceedings, but none was held,” Wee said in a statement.
Wee said Hasan’s sacking   proved that Pas was only interested in placating opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim without actually addressing the concerns of  non-Muslims.
“We do not, in any way, condone any of the outrageous remarks Hasan is known to advocate.
Selangor DAP chief Teresa Kok said she hoped things in Selangor would be better with Hasan out of the picture.
“We have to discuss this (Hasan’s position) in the executive council  meeting after the state receives formal notification from Pas.
“Hopefully, things will be better without him,” said Teresa who is also  state executive councillor.
Another executive councillor Ronnie Liu said he was not surprised with Pas’ decision to sack Hasan.
“This is an expected decision as Hasan has acted against the wishes of the party many times,” said Liu, who has had many disagreements with Hasan on religious issues, including the sale of alcohol in the state.
PKR supreme council member and Selangor state executive councillor Dr Xavier Jayakumar said  Hasan’s comments on many issues  showed that he was an arrogant person and did not have the opposition spirit within him.

Journalists and Ministers must be brave enough to speak the truth; to speak up what is the truth; and speak out against those who make up stories for their own agendas. Thus, Teresa Kok must be wary of reporters who try to bait her; and tell lies under they pretext of having a face-to-face interview.
I noticed several occasions when those with bad intentions creat a “hole ” and then try to repair it! Then, politicians declare to the whole world how hard-working they are for repairing the “hole .My advice to twisters: Don’t try to be smart by creatinga problem; and then pretend to repair it! When there is no hole in the first place, why create one ?

Teresa, the top NST people owed their livlihood to Umnoputras. These gutless know nothing monkeys are put there to serve a purpose. To do the dirty work of their political masters. They will spin and spin and will not feel no shame. These are shameless people who will go down on all fours at the snap of a finger.Even a thief has more pride and dignity than these useless spineless monkeys.

The NST, like Utusan Malaysia, is Umno-owned. What else can you expect it to report the truth? Anything that is detrimental to the opposition parties (Pakatan Rakyat) will hit the headlines in the so-called revamped newspaper which has its sales dipped considerably since the ‘2008 tsunami’. No fair-minded Malaysian would want to read ‘garbage’ news that is full of venom for the opposition. As a matter of fact, nobody reads the local newspapers nowadays – people prefer to go to the Internet for balanced coverage of happenings in our beloved country!
