This morning, I held a press conference at my Seputeh service center to update the members of the public on developments in the life of the 10-year old girl with the medical condition called scoliosis whereby her spine was curved like the letter “S”, hurt her internal organs, and impeded her growth.
After I highlighted her condition to the press and on my blog, and her mother Mdm Siew Pek Wah’s appeal for RM90,000 to pay for corrective surgery last month, many members of the public came forward to donate cash and offer assistance. Datuk Danny Cheah of Mammoth Empire Holdings Sdn Bhd group also made a contribution of RM20,000. Thanks to everyone’s kindness and generosity, there were sufficient funds for the little girl to have her operation.
Now, see what a great difference it has made.
This was the little girl’s condition one month ago…. (Photo taken on 5 December 2011.)
And look at her condition today! No more hunch back and her spine has been made straighter 🙂
This little girl’s journey to recovery is not over yet though. She still needs to undergo several further treatments to “straighten” her spine, but her future has already become brighter.
Mdm Siew Pek Wah was very happy and touched that so many Malaysians contributed to her daughter’s medical expenses. She said that Christmas 2011 was the best one ever for her. She offered hand-written thank you cards to all the members of the press who came, as a gesture of her appreciation.
