Last Monday, I spoke at a “Talk & Change” forum organised by my Seputeh service center together with the famous 988 DJ Jamal and Hishamuddin Rais at Hotel Seri Petaling. It was a great time because the other two speakers were fiery and funny and the 200-strong audience was also very enthusiastic.
I spoke about the many laws that oppress freedom of speech and freedom of expression in Malaysia like the Internal Security Act, Sedition Act, Printing Presses and Publication Act.
I also said that the media landscape in Malaysia is very unfair towards opposition political parties. Traditional media (tv, radio, newspaper) in Malaysia is dominated by Barisan Nasional parties since they own most of it. Opposition parties get little positive coverage and we have no opportunity to communicate our message across to all Malaysians. Even our party organs like Roket, Suara Keadilan and Harakah get threatened with non-renewal of our publication license under the Printing Presses and Publication Act.
Hishamuddin Rais who is a fiery and also funny speaker spoke about how UMNO uses scare tactics to frighten the Malays into supporting UMNO, and make them support UMNO blindly without thinking.
He also joked that after the March 2008 elections when Lim Guan Eng became Chief Minister, Utusan Malaysia published an article that said “Pulau Pinang jatuh ke Cina” as though Koh Tsu Koon was Mohammad Koh Tsu Koon 😉
During the Q and A session, one man from the audience who stood up to speak said that he had actually driven all the way from Penang to attend this talk, after reading about it on my blog. He added that he didn’t regret that he came all the way because the talk was really worth it. Wah!! I feel so honoured.
Well, it was really worth it for me too and I welcome more of you to attend these forums so that we have more chance to learn new things and exchange ideas. Follow me on Facebook to stay updated.
I think DJ Jamal should join PKR and stand for Kulim parliament seat. He can win….
I support Jamal too.
988 dj jamal and hishamuddin should be given a chance to stand for elections in n9.we want leaders that dare to be different.
Yes,I believe that majority of Malaysians would whole
heartely agree that DJ Jamal and H.Rais should be asked to be be PR candidates in the coming election or by-elections.This two well known and respected loyal Malaysian needs no further introduction to the masses.
If we have more malays who think and act like DJ Jamal, Nazri etc… Malaysia will be a better place for all. The country not only peaceful but prosperous too. But sad indeed.. we continue to have idiotic, pea brain and lazy bums esp in Perkasa, some so called NGOs, MSM etc..running and beating their chests that they are the best, they own the country, they are the masters of all other races etc…., not only making us a shameful to the whole world but also pulling the country to third world status like Burma. Laos etc..
We believe in order to change and move the country forward, people like DJ Jamal, Nazri, NUJ President etc… should join or work with PKR to make this country a place for all irrespective of race/religion.
