Media statement by Ean Yong Hian Wah in Shah Alam on Friday, 30th July 2010:
No such resolution to give 6 months’ notice before Selangor state elections
With regards to the article Selangor will give advance notice for state polls published in the Malaysian Insider this morning, I wish to make corrections to statements which were attributed to Selangor PAS information chief Roslan Shahir Mohd Shahir.
Firstly, Pakatan Rakyat Selangor leadership has made no such resolution to give six months’ notice before calling for state elections.
Secondly, dissolution of the state assembly is Sultan’s prerogative upon the request of the Menteri Besar and not the sole decision of the Selangor leadership.
Thirdly, the decision to dissolve the Selangor state assembly has to be endorsed by the Pakatan national top leadership and not Selangor leadership alone.
Last but not least, I wish to clarify that Roslan Shahir was speaking in his personal capacity and not speaking on behalf of Pakatan Rakyat Selangor.
At this point, it is premature to make any statements which allude to when state elections may or may not be held. Pakatan Rakyat focus remains on governing the state with integrity for the good people of Selangor.
