On the third day of Chinese New Year, I had lunch with a group of leftists or former members of the socialist front. They gather for lunch on the 5th day of CNY every year. I have been attending their yearly lunch ever since I became an MP.
I usually give a speech to them on the latest development in politics and political analysis.
I admire them for they are still very supportive of the democratisation movement in Malaysia despite their old age.
Some of them are still actively campaigning for Pakatan Rakyat parties during general elections. Some are involved in the mother tongue education movement.
To me, they are role models for us younger generation in social activism and active politics.

My late father was a staunch supporter of the Socialist Front and even though he is no longer here with us, I am sure he was at the gathering at least in spirit. In fact, I could see him smiling at the many veterans gathered there that night.
