Rise In Crime Rate Means The Growth of Economy?

Posted on Monday, 17-12-2007Monday, 17-12-2007 by -ec-

During the debate of RM10 pay cut motion presented by Fong Po Kuan last Monday, after Fong presented her speech she was whacked left, right and centre by BN MPs who tried to defend the Minister of Internal Security, namely the Prime Minister.

One of the ridiculous remarks made by MCA former deputy minister of home affairs minister Chor Chee Heung was that the rise in crime rate means the economy of our country is doing well (that’s why we have things for people to rob :-)).

This is in line with Ling Liong Sik’s infamous “traffic jam means many people have the ability to buy cars, this shows the economic growth in our country.”

I thought the growth in crime rate is caused by the economic slow down and poor performance of our economy. That’s why many people have to resort to crime in order to survive. What do you think?

what the hell is this wood head talking about?

if economy is doing well, everyone has a stable job and crime rate goes down! Look at Singapore and Hong Kong. people have money to spend, places to go to and feel safe walking on the street day or night.

If economy doing well but crime rate increases, this means a society that has imbalance distribution of income (high GDP but many poor and desparate people) or useless police & imigration control (allowing locals and of course foreigners to rob, plunder, steal and rape)

The standard of living actually goes down for the people because personal safety is one of the yard stick for measuring standard of living. So is it the way BN working for the rakyat?

A former deputy minister? He should be sent to pre-school rather than earning big fat salary from my tax money, coming out with such a drainage level intelligence statement like that. Next time, if he or his loved one becomes a victim of crime, he can reflect on his statement.

I wonder how this fella is qualified to stand in the Parlimen…
No wonder Malaysia has a trend in moving backward..
Crimes=Economic Growth…this is the first theory i have ever had, i guess Denmark, Japan, Sweden all should have more crime issues than Malaysia then…silly…
Tell me, what is Social Security all about!!!I really wish Malaysia Government will really look seriously on Social Security matters in Malaysia.
When i go back to Malaysia, i feel threaten when i drive in the night myself, i walk carefully n bring pepper spray with me when i walk in PJ….

What mentality and reasoning does this MP have? He is talking nonsense. If we are getting more prosperous, and if everyone is well off, who would want to commit crimes? It is when everyone is facing problems that crime rates rise. Or does this MP think that reverse psychology will help to ease the situation?

Take a good look at history itself. If anyone has read the famous chinese novel, “The Water Margin” (Shui Hu Zhuan), then one can easily see that what this MP is blaring in Parliament is nothing but utter nonsense. The 108 heroes of the Water Margin were peasants driven to the brink by the government during the Sung Dynasty and they turned to become robbers. Ask this guy to read this novel and see what he is talking makes sense at all!
