Signature drive aimed at registering residents’ objections against overdevelopment

Posted on Thursday, 23-11-2017 by -ec-

Residents of Taman Desa, Kuala Lumpur, are putting words to action as they embarked on a petition to address issues of overdevelopment in the area.

According to Taman Desa Residents Association (TDRA), Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has processed or approved at least seven high-rise and high-density residential projects in Taman Desa, Danau Desa and Bukit Desa, which will adversely affect the residents’ living environment.

TDRA vice-president Yap Biow Hwee said about 18 tower blocks totalling 5,744 apartment units from the seven projects would cause massive traffic jam and indiscriminate parking on roadsides as well as result in congested allotted space for amenities and public green areas.

“The petition is to make our concerns heard. We have tried appealing to DBKL but there was no response.

Yap hoped the petition would encourage DBKL to professionally plan and review all new projects approved or that were pending approval.

The residents kicked off the campaign with a visit to several restaurants along Jalan Desa Jaya to inform the public and gather signatures.

Seputeh MP Teresa Kok said she would continue to follow up on the issue and would bring the matter to Parliament.

The signature campaign will take place until end of the month.
