PETALING JAYA: DAP today slammed the Registrar of Societies (RoS) for claiming the existence of 120 phantom branches in the party, saying the allegation was unfounded and slanderous.
Its vice-chairman, Teresa Kok, said DAP would seek a meeting with the RoS as soon as possible to get clarification and any evidence in support of the allegation.
“The RoS did not provide any evidence to back its allegation. Therefore, we reject it as a lie and slander,” she said in a statement.
Sin Chew Daily today reported that the RoS nullified the results of DAP’s 2013 re-election for its central executive committee (CEC) because of the existence of 120 phantom branches at the time.
According to the report, the official letter sent by the RoS to DAP on Monday pointed out that 2,576 delegates from 865 branches took part in the CEC election on Dec 15, 2012.
However, the report of the CEC re-election on Sept 29, 2013 showed the existence of 985 branches, an addition of 120 branches compared to the number in the 2012 election.
Also, the number of delegates who took part in the two separate elections showed a marked difference, the news report said.
Kok said the CEC re-election on Sept 29, 2013 complied fully with the regulations provided in the party constitution.
“It should be stressed that we have given our full cooperation to the RoS all this while. Every document and name list it asked for has been submitted to the RoS.”
