Last night I attended the solidarity night with activist Hishamuddin Rais. He has been sentenced to 9 months jail by court under Sedition Act and his appeal will be heard tomorrow (Monday). If he loses the case, he will go to jail.
The invitation to the solidarity night said the venue is at Kelab Bangsar Utama at Jalan Kemuja at Bangsar. Waze and Google map failed to show me the location of Kelab Bangsar Utama. When my car turned to Jalan Kemuja, I saw a group of people gathered at the road side of the former Malaysiakini office, these were the activists that I know. I then realized this Kelab Bangsar Utama is at the corridor or “kaki lima” of Jalan Kemuja.
Ha ha! It is brilliant to bid farewell with Hishamuddin at “kaki lima”, this is in line with his role as a street fighter. On top of that, the audience were holding umbrellas to listen to speeches made by all activists who have joined Hisham in many occasions.
I saw Hisham in almost all street demonstrations In Kuala Lumpur. Besides, he is also a popular speaker and comedian in many forums or ceramahs on human rights and democracy. He is an activist yesterday, today and forever.
I pray and hope that Hisham will be acquitted tomorrow. May God bless Hisham.
