Today, I joined Lim Kit Siang and Anthony Loke at the press conference called by the former PM, Tun Dr Mahathir to launch the Citizen’s Declaration which main objectives are to oust PM Najib and to bring about institutional reforms. The press conference was held at the UM Alumni Club.
I was very happy to be able to attend the event as it was an important historic event where the erstwhile political foes and NGOs’ personalities have come together to oust the PM and to save the country. Although Anwar Ibrahim is still in prison, he has issued a statement from prison to support the Save Malaysia campaign.
The backdrop of the press conference is “SELAMATKAN MALAYSIA”. This is the same slogan used by the opposition coalition Gagasan Rakyat during the 1990 General Election.
However, I must express my disappointment that Tengku Razaleigh who is regarded by some quarters as a possible alternative PM was absent at the press conference, although his name was in the invitation list. Tengku Razaleigh has always been seen as one who could play a significant role in saving the nation, but looks like we can’t depend on him anymore.
