Today I held a Press Conference at Jabatan Perancangan Bandar dan Desa Selangor.
This was to highlight the issue of shortage and allocation of cemeteries needed until 2060. JPBD recommends to have a regional integrated cemetery which will be divided into smaller sections to accommodate people of all beliefs. Mr Chiang from the KL-Selangor cemetery association pleaded to the Selangor state government to assign the burial land to them as their objective is to care for the poor and middle class. Since last year the Selangor state government had increase from RM62.50 to RM 500 per unit payment, to all new developments in Selangor, for the use of cemetery land acquisition. Currently there is RM 15 million in that fund to allow acquisition of land for cemetery purposes. JPBD has identified 2 areas which will be disclosed to the public once a study has been carried out.
