Last week when I was still in London, I took a train to Nottingham. I have never been to this place, I only knew that the University of Nottingham has set up its branch campus in Semenyih. This made me interested to take a look at the original Nottingham campus in UK.
The Malaysian student association of Nottingham University, Cia Yee arranged some Malaysian students who have come back to campus earlier to receive me at the Nottingham train station.
These few Malaysian students took me to a Malaysian restaurant for lunch. After that they took me to walk around in the town centre, their campus and their hostels next to the campus.
I am impressed with these Malay students. They are studying in science faculty in the university. They speak good English and they look smart. They are sponsored by the government to study in UK and will be posted as lecturers when they are graduated.
I encouraged them to try to mingle around with the locals in UK and learnt more about the civilization and culture of the society there. I also encouraged them to take some social science subjects in the university, so that they can learn some social theories on top of the science subjects.
I told them that they are the cream of their peers, they will be the future leaders that bring change in the country.
I was told by them that PM Najib got his degree of Economics from Nottingham University.
I walked around in Nottingham for a few hours and took a train to go back to London. Nottingham is a quite town, very much different from the busy London.
This trip satisfied my curiosity about Nottingham 😃
