PEMBERITAHU PERTANYAAN DEWAN RAKYAT, MALAYSIA
PERTANYAAN : LISAN
SOALAN:

Muhyiddin: Civil servants still trying to settle down
KUALA LUMPUR (May 5, 2008): Officers in federal government agencies are still trying to adapt to new state administrations, especially in the five Pakatan Rakyat (PR) states, said International Trade and Industries Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. He was put in a spot in Parliament today by Teresa Kok (DAP-Seputeh) who holds the similar portfolio for the Selangor government.
Kok related her failure to obtain an appointment with the Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA) officers, despite several attempts.
“I was wondering if this was an instruction from the federal government and perhaps the minister can call a dialogue, a briefing or a discussion with the leaders of the five states to discuss issues and help form strategies to attract investments,” she said.
Muhyiddin said: “This is a new government and the officers have not adapted yet but I have told them to cooperate when it is needed, especially with executive members like you.”
However, he said, the work that needs to be done is focusing on increasing investment at the national level.
“There is great competition at the international level and if we fail to pick up on this, we will see a lot of problems,” Muhyiddin said.
Kok questioned Muhyiddin if the ministry will continue working with the five DAP-PKR-PAS run states to attract foreign investments and if incentives will still be given to foreign investors located in the states.
Muhyiddin said the federal government had always encouraged foreign investments in these states and that it would not sideline the five states in efforts to attract and retain foreign investors there.
“We have never excluded the five states and all the incentives that is already being offered will be continuous for the investors and the government will ensure that the returns of these investments will be enjoyed by all,” he said.
“The government does not discriminate any state government and therefore these states are encouraged to continue with the pro-business policies.
“What I hope is that the state governments will not introduce or implement new policies that are not proactive enough to attract investments or clash with the previous policies or legalities enforced by the central government,” he said.
In a press conference in the lobby later, Perak Finance, Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Energy and Water and Non-Islamic affairs senior exco member Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham (DAP-Beruas) pooh-poohed Muhyiddin’s claim that the ministry was not sidelining the five states.
“We discovered that since the (change in ) state government, the Malaysian Tourism Action Council office was closed down immediately and the state development office housed in the state government building was also filtered out.
“This is a case of ‘cakap tak serupa bikin’ (action differing from speech) and the federal government had also formed another committee headed by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi himself.
“This committee is to supervise the administrative side of the federal government in the state, thus creating a parallel body,” Ngeh alleged, urging for real cooperation from the central body.
He also said that Perak had various parties wanting to invest in the state but the previous government had given out 30 to 60 year temporary occupational licences (TOL) for land leases.
“We are thinking to extend the TOL handed out to 99-years so that people are interested to come and invest because many are expecting a lot from this new state government,” Ngeh added.
please do not play politics with tax payers’ money. it is tragic if the hard earned money of all and sundry is being witheld, misplaced and abused by the ego of a selected few.
People on both side of the political divide, you are Wakil Rakyat first and foremost. You were not borned with the power to command and rule, but given power as people trusted you. Stop using tax money to fly around and star channelling our money back to us in the most beneficial way.
Time for Malaysia to move from a feudalistic mindset to a more accountable, equitable and responsible democratic environment therefore independent judiciary, free press and powerful ACA is the foundation of this progression, something uncle Lim was calling for since I was still in my dapers!
Why can’t BN & Pakatan Rakyat work together to serve the Rakyat? Why must they made it as if a kid’s game? If opposition, BN doesn’t want to lend a hand from Federal point of view. Then only supports states that is controlled by BN. This is VERY VERY childish! Not very mature!!
In the end, who suffered most? The people, not the politicians who sit in A/C office.
Really hope we Malaysians can be more mature, especially politicians.
After your question and answer in the parliament with the trade minister, did you manage to fix an appointment with MIDA or any dialogue arranged?
I suspect it is the usual so call” Said one thing and do another thing ”
It is best that be prepared for an alternative solution in the event BN play dirty again
badcliq
kudos to u.
no matter the ruling or the opposition, both are winning their voice up as rakyat are amusing with them. all them are low class MP.
it even worse when senile handicapped old man are given chance to be the chairman of the party. no different with tun M.
i’m waiting for LGE to leads the party and turn this party off the chauvinistic figure. then i might be the malay member.
about the investment… well.. reverse psyco by pakatan will probably do. becoz yelling at one’s ears are defined as rude.
In parliament, when all the dust settle down, serious questions from TK will be given nice answers, sweet promises.
Now its up to TS to inform us whether these BN guys do practise what they preach in parliament or if they continue to victimise those who did not vote for them, then its up to us rakyat to warn them, and start campaigning for their TOTAL ANIHILATION…
not just in the next election but maybe force them to byelections
Let’s look at M’sia from the macro viewpoint. Leave EM aside, they lost five of the eleven states in WM!!! That leaves them with Negri,Mcca,Johore,Pahang,T’ganu and Perlis. They lost four out of the five most vibrant states in WM with the cream, S’gor, P’ng and Perak in the PR’s care. The bulk of economic transactions happen in these three states, dare them to severe investments here and it’s like severing the arteries from the heart!!! Where then can they find funds for the government ( of course you MPs must keep your eye on the oil money)
Whatever it is, keep a close tab on the govenment funds existing, see how it is dispersed and spent in the right manner!!! Keep accountability by those in the various ministries. Make it transparent.
By the way YB, today is exactly one week from our humble request for the ‘contacts’ of the various government departmental heads. We need their particulars, contact numbers, fax and emails so as to lighten you MPs job.
Thanking you in advance.
Terima kasih.
