Last week, I travelled to Singapore to support our Selangor team in their match against the Singapore Selection for the Sultan of Selangor cup 2009.
With other Selangor State EXCOs waiting for the arrival of HRH Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin at Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore. There’s YB Dr Xavier displaying his team spirit with the red and yellow Selangor scarf.
Upon HRH’s arrival, HRH was greeted by a troupe of young, bright cheerleaders who cheered, “Welcome, welcome! Welcome Sultan of Selangor!” with their pom-poms.
A percussion band warmed up the crowd before the match began.
Shaking hands with the Singapore line-up at the start of the match. Their team was so international. There were players who were originally from Nigeria, England, Korea, and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The Selangor supporters in their red and yellow.
From the start of the match, our Selangor team kept getting attacked. Luck wasn’t on our side as we missed some good shots as well. This was the second time I had ever seen a football match live.
In the end, the Singapore side won with a score of 3-0. Congratulations to all for an exciting match.
At the end of the programme, I was then informed that one of the veteran football players, Dollah Kasim had a heart attack during the match, he was immediately sent to the hospital and the doctors there immediately carried out open heart surgery for him. This news was reported on front page in all the Singaporean papers the next day. I was truly impressed with the efficiency of the doctors in the Singapore hospitals………
a fundamental statement of Malaysian football development. the Selangor veterans are still more famous than the current batch
“I was truly impressed with the efficiency of the doctors in the Singapore hospitals”
We should emulate them! Not only in this but in other aspects as well.
Keep this in mind when PR takes over the reign of the Federal Government!
I’m sure we could get the same service in Malaysia, if someone is willing to pay for it.
Hi YB,
Very excited to see Pakatan Exco in the trip. I just curios to know WHY the BN’s ‘diehard’ Wong Chun Wai of The Star in the trip?
