Hari ini ialah 12 September 2009, iaitu ulang tahun pertama penahanan ISA saya akibat tuduhan palsu yang dilemparkan oleh orang UMNO di Selangor terhadap saya bahawa kononnya saya melarang laungan azan di Masjid Al-Ehsan di Bandar Kinrara, Puchong.
Tuduhan itu adalah terbukti fitnah apabila nazir masjid pada masa tersebut, Haji Abdul Rahman, tampil menafikan tuduhan tersebut selepas saya ditahan di bawah ISA. Namun demikian, saya masih ditahan secara persendirian selama seminggu di bawah ISA.
Selepas saya keluar daripada penahanan ISA pada tahun lepas, saya memang berhasrat melawat masjid berkenaan dan mengucapkan terima kasih kepada Haji Abdul Rahman, tetapi saya diberitahu bahawa jawatankuasa Masjid Al Ehsan di bawah tekanan UMNO yang kuat pada waktu itu kerana kenyataan yang berani dan benar oleh Haji Abdul Rahman tersebut, dan oleh itu, saya tidak dapat masuk ke masjid tersebut.
Semalam, 11 September 2009, dengan bantuan rakan-rakan daripada PKR dan PAS di Puchong, saya berjaya mengorak langkah masuk ke Masjid Al-Ehsan di Bandar Kinrara tersebut buat kali pertama, dan mengadakan majlis berbuka puasa bersama muslimin dan muslimat setempat.
Saya juga gembira dapat berjumpa dengan bekas nazir masjid Haji Abdul Rahman ketika majlis berbuka puasa yang dianjurkan oleh Pakatan Puchong ini. Sekali lagi saya mengucapkan terima kasih kepada beliau.
Dalam majlis berbuka puasa ini, saya menggunakan peruntukan kawasan DUN saya untuk memberi sumbangan kepada 15 surau dan 4 masjid di Puchong.
Saya bersama dengan imam, nazir masjid dan wakil masjid/surau, ahli majlis MPSJ dan pemimpin Pakatan Puchong selepas menyampaikan sumbangan kepada masjid dan surau di Puchong.
Selain itu, saya juga memberi sumbangan kepada golongan fakir miskin.
Dalam ucapan saya, saya berkata bahawa penahanan ISA ke atas saya menunjukkan bahawa undang-undang ini memang senang disalahgunakan oleh pihak yang berkuasa yang tidak bertanggungjawab. Saya juga berkata bahawa penahanan saya menunjukkan bahawa polis telah menahan saya tanpa menjalankan siasatan terlebih dahulu.
Inilah YDP PAS Puchong, Tuan Haji Mohd Sofien Ismail. Apaila saya beritahu beliau bahawa saya telah pun gagal masuk ke Masjid Al-Ehsan, beliau pun tolong saya menghubungi jawatankuasa masjid tersebut dan membantu saya menganjurkan majlis berbuka puasa ini.
Perempuan di sebelah kiri ini adalah Puan Hanim, ketua muslimat PAS Puchong. Beliau telah banyak membantu saya dalam program majlis berbuka puasa di Puchong, termasuk majlis berbuka puasa di Masjid Al-Ehsan ini.
Muslimin dan Muslimat mengerjakan solat selepas majlis berbuka puasa.
Saya amat bersyukur pada Tuhan dan berterima kasih kepada rakan-rakan beragama Islam di Pakatan Puchong yang telah membantu saya untuk mencapaikan hasrat mengadakan majlis berbuka puasa di Masjid Al-Ehsan dalam ulang tahun pertama penahanan ISA saya.
Pada hari ulangtahun pertama penahanan ISA saya, saya berdoa agar ISA tidak akan digunakan oleh kerajaan Barisan Nasional dan polis, dan undang-undang yang zalim dan tidak adil ini boleh dimansuhkan langsung oleh kerajaan dan Parlimen kita.
~~~ Rough English translation of the above ~~~
Today is 12 September 2009, the first anniversary of my ISA detention due to the false accusations thrown at me by UMNO Selangor members who alleged that I had forbidden the azan call for prayer at Masjid Al-Ehsan at Bandar Kinrara, Puchong.
The accusations were proven false when the chairman of the mosque at the time, Haji Abdul Rahman, stepped forward to deny the accusations when I was under ISA detention. Nevertheless, I was kept in solitary confinement under ISA for a week.
As soon as I was released from ISA detention last year, I had the desire to visit the mosque and express my thanks and gratitude to Haji Abdul Rahman. However, I was told that the committee of the Masjid Al Ehsan was under strong pressure by UMNO at the time due to the courageous and truthful statement made by Haji Abdul Rahman tersebut. Thus, I was not able to enter the mosque.
Last night, on 11 September 2009, I was able to step foot into Masjid Al-Ehsan in Bandar Kinrara for the first time, thanks to the assistance of my PKR and PAS friends in Puchong, and held a break-fast-banquet with the local Muslims.
I was very happy to meet the now former chairman of the mosque Haji Abdul Rahman during the break-fast-banquet organised by Pakatan Rakyat Puchong. Once again, I expressed my gratitude to him.
At this event, I used my DUN allocation to gave financial aid to 15 surau and 4 mosques located in Puchong.
I took a photo with the imam, the mosque chairman and the representatives of the mosques/surau, the councilors of MPSJ and the leaders of Pakatan Puchong after disbursing the aid to the suraus and mosques in Puchong.
In addition, I also gave financial aid to those in need.
In my speech, I said that the use of ISA against me shows that this law can easily be abused by those in power and are irresponsible. I also said that my detention shows that the police had arrested me without having conducted a prior investigation.
This is the YDP of PAS Puchong, Tuan Haji Mohd Sofien Ismail. When I had shared with him that I had not been able to enter Masjid Al-Ehsan, he assisted me by contacting the mosque committee and helped me organise this break-fast-banquet.
The lady on the left is Puan Hanim, the leader of the Muslim women of PAS Puchong. She has been a great help to me in organising break-fast-banquets in Puchong, including this very one at Masjid Al-Ehsan.
Here is a photo of the Muslims saying their prayers after breaking fast.
I am very thankful to the Lord and to my Muslim friends in Pakatan Puchong who have helped me to fulfill my intention to hold a break-fast-banquet at Masjid Al-Ehsan on the first anniversary of my ISA detention.
On this day of the first anniversary, I pray that ISA will not be used by the Barisan Nasional government and police any more. And that this cruel and unjust law will be repealed by the government and our Parliament.
Yang Berhormat,
I am deeply impressed by your gracious consideration, sincerity and illustrious humility in joining the muslim members in your constituency for iftar (breaking of the fast). Coming so soon after the ‘cow’s head’ fiasco by the brainless umno goons, it is like a breath of fresh air after passing through a stinking dump site!
May the blessings of Allah be with you, Yang Berhormat.
Dear YB Teresa,
Your photos speak a thousand words, and your actions speak volumes of yourself. I am moved to comment on your brave efforts reaching out to the muslims in your constituent. Being a politician you’ve made the right moves. I know you knew that already. As they said, action speaks louder than words. I am sure, they will rally behind you and with you in the future. I have a glimmer of hope with people like you at the helm. Keep up the good work.
May God guide you… and Have a Blessed Ramadhan & Eidul Fitr.
Sincerely,
Azi – Charlotte, North Carolina
God Bless U YB.
Cheers!
Tahniah YB Theresa.
Once again you have proven you are good and dedicated Ybelected rep of the people. Don’t worry, it’s the UMNO goons who always create scenes not the muslims overall. Keep up the good work.
Theresa, some wording discussion: try to avoid saying you “gave”, use “allocated, channeled,facilitated, etc ” if the resource is not from your personal’s account.
By the way, when dress in baju melayu to visit, wear tudung. Want to show respect, do it 100%.
Not every male masjid visitor wear a songkok, but all female wear at least tudung. An A-‘s deed, ‘-‘ because of tudung.
Fantastic work YB Teresa. Keep up the good job.
good job yb!
YB Teresa,
Good work. This will take you to their hearts forever.
Good deeds will be paid with good needs, cheers YB.
My wish is to see you settle down with somebody you love and serve the rakyat in the best possible way that only you yourself know. God bless you.
err, didn’t read the English version but the Malays version should have been better.
it was a bit “raw”, don’t you have staff to “refine” it further?
A lot of Muslims in Malaysia are tolerant people, if not for the spin by UMNO that leads them to be racist. You are doing a damn fine job, Sassy Teresa Kok. Really what has become of this country is terrible a thought where the majority rule are racist and to hold on to power UMNO will indulge in all sorts of chicanery and tricks to keep the rakyat ignorant. and they have the MSM to spin for them. Without such leaders as Teresa we will be more ignorant and with the proliferation of information through the internet it would not be so easy for UMNO to perpertuate lies and racist policies. Keep it up Teresa. all the best of wishes to you. arthur
Salam dan sejahtera utk anda dari saya penduduk puchong. Saya bangga dengan sikap positif anda dan berharap anda dapat adakan lawatan ke kawasan puchong perdana dan hebahkan program anda agar ianya bukan tertumpu kepada golongan PR sahaja bahkan kepada seluruh golongan. Mudah2an Allah buka pintu hati Anda untuk mendapat Taufik dan Hidayah Nya dan mengambil Islam sebagai Agama anda dan sebagai kerajaan kita.
Salam dan sejahtera kepada seluruh umat manusia.
Please continue the good work.
will make sure PR takes over the Federal Gov.
Diamonds, when mined, are in their crude stage.
When polished after that, they become pricelss.
Your detention under ISA was the crude beginning.
One year later, see how polished the situation is?
Your experience is a lovely example of how crude but well meant beginnings will later glitter and showcase the sincere efforts.
It would have been even better, if you had also contacted UMNO leaders in your area and asked them to also join in this meaningful gathering.
For future engagements, try to engage more organisations on both sides of the political divide.
You are after all, an ADUN for all people and not just for Pakatan Rakyat supporters.
One more thing, your photos – do not show that you used the shawl to cover your head. Remember, even the orthodox Christian females cover their heads as a sign of respect when entering chruches. he Muslim women do that too.
Next time – do consider this aspect when you enter places of worship…even if others are not doing it.
You will certainly make the difference by observing such sensitivities.
Dear TK,
Syukur Alhamdulillah. You are the change engine towards a new Malaysia.This is the change that we want to see in Malaysia. I believe Malaysia is a testing nation that Allah created for us and made it as a Malaysia multi-racial nation. This mean that God is testing you leaders how to lead the nation with the guidance of the holy book. As you know in the holy Quran it tells everything from the creation of human being, nature, social contracts, politics, government, rules & law etc. But the Holy Quran is not only for the muslims but for all other races as well. In order to know more about it everyone of us has to study and learn from it. Only the malay berfikiran sempit sahaja thought that “malay is islam or islam is malay” that is totally unacceptable and deviate from the what is God said in the Al Quran. I am sorry TK I don’t mean to promote Islam to you.
I was crying in happiness when I saw your picture during your present at the mosque. You got a Good Heart. Your good deeds and sincerities would made the people who attended the majlis berbuka puasa with you would remember you forever. Your appearance and acceptance by them would proved to the UMNO/BN that they are wrong at all. Kudos to you and keep up with your good work. May God bless you especially in this holy month of ramadhan.
Rgds…..Ashe Kamarudin
After so long im seeing something that really shows true Malaysian Identity.
I have been to so many international conferences and what im seeing there is ‘Unity in Diversity’, and i always think when the world actually will see this unity.
Its happening i guess.
Keep the good job.
Hi Teresa
Look at how gracious PR leaders are in the way they reach out to community of other races and faith. Last year, after the March GE, Dr Hj Dzulkefly Ahmad of PAS and MP for Kuala Selangor, became the first Muslim MP to attend Sunday Easter Mass at the St Paul The Hermit Church in Ijok, whilst his colleage, YB Khalid Samad, joined the Catholics for a normal Sunday Mass at the Church of Divine Mercy in Glenmarie. All I could say was “WOW!” In the same token, you too have done the right thing with our Muslim brothers. Congratulations to you!
leonardo,
Its people like you who would kill this country with your narrow mindedness. just hope you were born in Indonesia….., where the Government does not interfere wit religious affair with accorddance with PANCASILA.
Believe whatever you want to believe…let the State be scot free from prosecution….., where did our fore fathers go wrong ? They did not!…, only as.. h..es, like you did.
Dear YB Teresa
I’ve no more words to utter as others said it all!
Syabas to you and yr team for all the efforts and kindred spirits
God Bless!
