Act of charity and love is contagious. When the Seputeh Parliament service centre started to give away food baskets for the needy, a number of constituents and business people also started to follow suit.
Some gave me cash donations, others gave me food. For example: RT Bakery gave us unsold bread; Hailam cafe in Taman Desa, Fully Restaurant and Big Nose Restaurant asked us to give away cooked box lunch. Some caring housewives cooked meals for us to give away to residents in the low cost flats.
Yesterday afternoon a vegetable wholesaler Edwin Lau called my office and asked us whether we want to give away vegetables. Gwen Ng in my office immediately said yes to him. Two hours later we were given half a lorry load of vegetables.
My assistants and helpers immediately sent the vegetables to two blocks of low cost flats in Salak South Garden and Kuchai Entrepreneur’s Park low cost flats. We finished delivering all the vegetables in two hours.
I was extremely impressed to see residents of different ethnics communities and migrants who queued and dutifully observed social distancing rules to take the vegetables from us, in such a civil and disciplined manner.
A barber’s wife in Salak South was in tears telling me that her husband has not been working for more than a month due to the MCO. She was very thankful to us for giving her food basket, cooked meals and the vegetables. I felt very sorry for her.
Kudos to the vegetable donor Edwin Lau. His donations has brought happiness to many recipients today.
