Yesterday morning, the DAP MPs of Kuala Lumpur visited Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve/KL Forest Eco-Park and met with the officers of the forestry department of Federal Territory.
The purpose of our visit is to voice our concern over the announcement by the deputy natural resources minister on the proposal to collect entrance fees up to RM40 from visitors.
After the dialogue session with the officers of forestry department of FT, we were brought by the officer, Awang Shafie to walk in the jungle. To my surprise, there are jungle tracks, hanging bridges or canopy walk, out-door sheds, walk-up towers, herbal plant garden and even 150-year-old trees inside this nine hectares jungle.
This is the remaining oldest forest in the KL City Centre. It is located along Jalan Raja Chulan and next to the KL Tower. We have had a good walk in the jungle together with the reporters.
It is so precious to have this forest in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Many of we KL folks are not aware of such forest due to lack of publicity by the forestry department.
We told the forestry department officer that the department should seek sponsorship from the big corporations in Kuala Lumpur to maintain the Eco-park and should not charge entrance fees from visitors. On top of that, the forestry department should do more publicity to create awareness for tourists and the public to visit the Eco-park.
