PETALING JAYA: Klang MP Charles Santiago today defended fellow DAP MP Teresa Kok against the allegation that she is in the habit of blackmailing party members.
Speaking to FMT, Santiago said those making the allegation might not know the Seputeh MP as well as he did. He said he had a long friendship with her and could vouch for her character.
“She has none of the attributes of a blackmailer,” he said. “On the contrary, many people, including her constituents, have benefited from her generosity.”
During a protest held outside Kok’s office yesterday, former DAP member Tony Tan claimed that Kok owned two bank accounts with different signatures. He alleged that so far four DAP members had been sued simply because they had questioned her on the whereabouts of public funds.
During the protest, a coffin was placed outside Kok’s office as a reminder of her alleged blackmailing habits.
Kok expressed disappointment with the police for their inaction and questioned whether they were playing political favourites.
Santiago agreed with Kok, saying the police were “always late” or “non-responsive” when opposition leaders were under attack.
“The coffin people have a political agenda and the police should investigate them for intimidation or any offence they might have committed under the Peaceful Assembly Act,” he said.
