I joined my party leaders and colleagues to visit Kerk Kim Hock in Melaka this morning. Kerk is the DAP’s former Secretary-General and former MP for Pasir Pinji (1990 –1995) and Kota Melaka (1999-2004). He is suffering from rectal cancer recurrence after 13 years of remission. (I understand that remission means absence of symptoms and signs of cancer).
Doctors have described his recurrence as shocking and extremely rare. He was told the recurrence rate for his condition is less than 1 %, yet it happened.
Kerk is an intelligent person with acute political sense. It is a loss to the party when he quit politics in 2004 after the General Elections. However, he is still very concerned about the political development in Malaysia. He shares his views with me and my other colleagues from time to time.
For me, it is unbelievable to know that Kerk has suffered from cancer recurrence as he looks healthy. I told him to be optimistic and positive at all times and to fight the cancer like the way DAP fights against the oppressive Barisan Nasional.
