Educare Dinner

Posted on Thursday, 28-08-2008Thursday, 28-08-2008 by DAP Seputeh

I didn’t know what is Educare before I attended the dinner to raise fund for it in Klang on 7th August 08. The organiser,  Sister Marie Therese, who ran the organisation invited me to attend the dinner function two months ago.

One month after I agreed to attend the invitation, I changed my mind and was thinking to spend that weekened for holiday at elsewhere. When I informed Sister Marie over the phone that I was thinking of not attending the dinner as I might be away, she was very emotional and she kept saying that she could not accept it. I then decided to cancel my holiday trip and attend the Educare dinner only on that night.

When I have arrived at the V Garden Restaurant at Klang, I was being briefed on the works Educare does. Sister Marie and the management committee members told me that Educare is not a orphanage or shelter home, they just give tuition and training to those children and teenagers from poor families.

This is Sister Marie Therese, coordinator and founder of Educare Centre.

The man on my right me is Mr Lau Beng Long and on my left is Sis Marie Therese.

Some Klang supporters spotted me and asked me to take photo with them.

Towards the end of the dinner, we were presented with a belly dance. They wore nice bra and long skirt and danced on stage.  They danced very well, however, I saw Father Lawrence, a Catholic priest, turned his head from looking at the stage, I know he is not comfortable with the dancers’ costume.

I was told by Sis Marie Therese that the performers are all volunteers. She has tried to ask them to wear more but the dancers refused to listen, so she has to accept the performance with “one eye closed” :-))

    Dear Teresa,
I really appreciate Christians like Sister Marie & company who help out in educating children from poor families.
Citizens like us need to take care of the education of our fellow Malaysians if we can afford the time.
Many poor children cannot afford to have the money to go to tuition centres.
Malaysian Care, in cooperation with Emmanuel EFC, runs SPICES, which looks after autistic children of all races.
God bless those who have the tremendous patience to teach autistic children!!!
God bless you too Teresa for doing what you can for the people of Selangor as well as the people of Seputeh. Your rewards are in heaven for you to collect when the time comes!!!

    Dear Teresa,
I’m glad you did not cancel the appointment, people should see more of their elected reps in functions like this. I do not know whether it would earn you much publicity or votes, but it brings warmth to the hearts of people who are working hard but quietly for the society without asking for any reward.

    just showed that

    1) life as a MP is hard and one must be prepared to sacrifice personal freedom and privacy at times, although I cannot understand why some YBs have till be dabble in business, a certain close one eye individual comes into mind

    2) members of public have high expectation of MPs and we have to examine ourselves whether at times, can we sort out our own issues and let them focus on major issues

Please note that I am not talking specifically about the above event. If it is a noble cause, by all means

Previously a photo of roast pig allowed some opportunists to blow a non-issue out of proportion. For the dancers, it is ok because

    1) men should not look at women purely as sex object. it is both an insult to women (for they are not chatels)and men (who should have brains, sense of respect and self control)

    2) they did appear and YB Kok shows them as they were

    3) no double standard please – during the Olympics, beach volleyball players, divers, field and track atheletes showed much more skin. For those who intend to object the single photo above, did you watched those events or traded in your TV for a toaster?

I hope there is no objection so that I can restore my faith that Malaysians do have rational heads

anyway, YB, those are er…. bikini tops, not bra.

I hope whoever who read this comment can help to tell others about it.

I have just read our budget for 2009. There are a few things that are very worrying. First the fiscal deficit is widening and I dont believe that the govt will be able to reduce it in 2009 because

    1) The revenue that the govt is collecting is based on the assumption that we get more revenue out of oil than 2008 this really depends on the oil price and also partly due to more tax reduction given

    2) The govt assume that the operating expenditure only grow by 2% which is more likely to be 10% based on historical data and the habit of BN to overspent

    3) The development expenditure which is increasing because BN is spending on transportation and other sectors which badly needs investment

If the above materialise the budget deficit will blow up above 5% meaning we overspend than the revenue we obtain

Two points to highlight where are the RM10 billion we earmark for the transportation in 2006? I wonder how much the government spend on this by election?

For those who want more figures to judge my comments above, please see the link here

    1) The revenue that the govt is collecting is based on the assumption that we get more revenue out of oil than 2008 this really depends on the oil price and also partly due to more tax reduction given

    – in every budget, there must be assumption so did the PM gave the assumption for oil prices?

    – if revenue goes down as a result of adverse price movement, hopefully the cost of import can come down as well

    – it also depends on how much of our national expenditure is fixed (e.g. monthly salary, rental, contracted) and variable (e.g. entertainment, traveling) so that our administration can exercise some tactical control
–> I am laughing at myself for even thinking the current administration can vigorously cut costs, a reading of the AG’s report made me contemplating of either suicide, refuse to pay tax or join in as a negligent, heartless or pure dumb ass spoilt member of administration.

    2) The govt assume that the operating expenditure only grow by 2% which is more likely to be 10% based on historical data and the habit of BN to overspent

    – yep, only the AG report would support this but the quantum is unknown
    – sometimes, I feel that those China Ah Pek misery employers who exploit their staff should take over and run the departments

    3) The development expenditure which is increasing because BN is spending on transportation and other sectors which badly needs investment
    – yep, like thousand thousands of brand new rapid KL buses rotting in the sun and the long unbuilt rail ways into Puchong, Subang, Cheras, Pandan, Maluri, Jalan Ipoh, Kepong, Jinjang etc

We have a deficit budget for more than a decade, and imagine if a household constantly over spend for 10 years above their income, they would incure debts from banks and A Longs, paying interest which would have been used for medical and health and education purposes etc

Time to do up cost savings measures rather than having space tourists, submarines, expensive screw drives, collapsing buildings and frankly over-manned civil service.
