Pakatan Rakyat vs Barisan National: Who Understands Women’s hearts Better?

Posted on Friday, 31-08-2012Friday, 31-08-2012 by Teresa Kok's Office

Chua Yi Ling from  PKR , me, Datuk Heng Seai Kie of MCA and  Datuk Chin Nyuk Chin from Gerakan

I participated in a women politicians’ debate in Mandarin organised by Selangor KL Chinese Assembly Hall on Wednesday night

I teamed up with Chua Yee Ling from PKR as the Pakatan Team. BN’s team represented by Senator Datuk Heng Seai Kie (MCA) and Datuk Chen Yu Chen (Gerakan).

The topic of the debate was “BN and PR, who understands women’s hearts better?” The debate went on well. Speeches of BN’s reps gave me more ideas to argue my points. My main point was the women’s ministry was set up after the 1999 General Elections when Barisan Alternatif MPs won many seats in Parliament due to Anwar’s sacking from BN and UMNO. Women became important at that time when there was the formation of two coalitions in the Parliament and Malaysian politics.

If women want to be treasured and be seen important, then they must support the emergence of “two coalition system” in Malaysia.I found time was too short for me when questions from audience started to come in.I did not whack the two ladies from BN but I whacked UMNO and BN’s politics of race and religion that divide the society.

Well, as expected, MCA and Gerakan reps will harp on Hudud law and Islamic laws, and the misreporting of Sin Chew on Mat Sabu’s interview.

I whacked Najib for wearing too many hats. He should have appointed Heng as Minister of Women’s affairs as he has even forgotten about celebrating Malaysian Women’s Day on 25th August 2012.

I enjoyed the debate. Long time I did not participate in this type of debate. Glad that I was able to do it.

I think our Pakatan Team has won lah! As I told the crowd, Muhyiddin wants students to spend more time to read history and he kept harping on the past. So, BN is history, Pakatan is future!

The debate video clip will be uploaded soon!
