Press statement by Teresa Kok, Selangor State Senior EXCO and MP for Seputeh in Shah Alam on 22 April 2011
Najib’s refusal to condemn Utusan’s racist-charged call for 1Melayu 1Bumi movement proves his 1Malaysia concept is really 1Joke, with no substance, no credibility whatsoever
Utusan Malaysia’s call to UMNO to spearhead a 1Melayu 1Bumi movement to battle Malaysians of Chinese descent is but the latest public provocation by the UMNO-owned daily to sow hatred, fear and suspicion among right-thinking Malaysians.
Utusan Malaysia’s call is outrageous because it suggests extremist, far-right, Malay supremacist tendencies which are totally against the 1Malaysia concept preached by Prime Minister Najib Razak. What is most outrageous of all is Najib’s tolerance of and refusal to condemn Utusan Malaysia’s racist invective. (Source: http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/malaysia/article/utusans-1-melayu-1-bumi-movement-a-personal-opinion-says-pm/ )
Najib has instead brushed off Utusan’s vilification of Malaysians of Chinese descent with the feeble excuse that it was merely the personal opinion of the writer.
If Najib were truly a Prime Minister for all Malaysians, he would have condemned Utusan Malaysia outright without hesitation and ordered the suspension of the writer with immediate effect. After all, he has all the power and authority to do so being the President of UMNO which owns Utusan Malaysia.
It is two-faced of Najib to be spouting 1Malaysia rhetoric one day and turning a blind eye to Utusan Malaysia’s racist invective the next. His inaction proves once and for all that he couldn’t care less should Malaysia be further divided along racist lines or should any harm befall Malaysians of Chinese descent following the establishment of 1Melayu 1Bumi. Najib’s 1Malaysia concept is really 1Joke with no substance, no credibility whatsoever.

By Asrul Hadi Abdullah SaniApril 22, 2011PUTRAJAYA, April 22 — Datuk Seri Najib Razak distanced his administration today from Utusan Malaysia’s call for a ‘1 Melayu, 1 Bumi’ movement, saying it was the personal opinion of the writer in the Umno-owned daily.
The prime minister also said the Malay-language newspaper will not deter the government’s commitment to the 1 Malaysia concept.
“That is the personal opinion of the writer. In terms of the government, we already have a concept that is very clear and we will continue our efforts,” Najib (picture) told a press conference here.
Utusan Malaysia has called on its owners Umno to spearhead a 1 Melayu, 1 Bumi movement involving all Malay parties, claiming that the DAP was intent on toppling the country’s Malay leadership by appealing to the Chinese vote.
“What Umno needs to do now, in this pressing time, is to launch a wave of racial unity — 1 Melayu, 1 Bumi. Launch 1 Melayu, 1Bumi immediately with other Malay parties,” assistant chief editor Datuk Zaini Hassan wrote in the Malay daily yesterday.
Zaini said while the DAP had united the Chinese politically, the Malays had so far done nothing in response.
Najib stressed the movement was unnecessary as the Malay community can unite by supporting Umno.
“For the Malay community, what is important is that they continue supporting Umno. That plays a major role in uniting the Malay community in terms of politics by supporting Umno,” the Umno president said.
Perkasa announced yesterday that it would spearhead the “1 Melayu, 1 Bumi” movement and warned the Malays that the Chinese were ultimately seeking political power.
In backing Utusan Malaysia’s call for a movement to “unite” all Malay parties, Perkasa secretary-general Syed Hassan Syed Ali said that the Malay rights group did not have the “luxury of time” to wait for Malay political parties to initiate action.
However, in a surprising move earlier today, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad spoke out against the movement and called it disastrous.
Dr Mahathir said that such a movement would eventually result in a two-party system where each side would be dominated by one race.
“If we go ahead with this, there will be a two-party system… if one side is Malay-dominated and one side Chinese dominated, this would be bad,” the former prime minister said.
This is the first time Dr Mahathir, a strong Malay rights proponent and Perkasa patron, has disagreed with the group and Utusan’s ideas.
For once Dr Mahathir has spoken out like a Statesman and a Malaysian at heart.
Utusan,BTN course ,Interlok are all promoting ‘ketuanan melayu’ with a racist/hate agenda -more akin to Nazi type of ‘hate jews’ mentality.
Why the madness to seek to divide the Good people of Malaysia. Why pit the races against one another ? Why not focus on making the Economy stronger and focus on Unity.
The Chinese want to take over the Country??? L.O L
ha ha ha ….Army,Police, Civil Service ,GLCs, Banks, Huge Public Assets, Public Utilties, Public Unis,MAS airlines,Public Transport, Petrol-Gas- Distribution & Stations, Embassies ,New Public Corporations,Petronas,Ministries all dominated almost 100 percent by ONE race and ONE racist policy and the Chinese want to take over ?
This is Umno/Utusan ‘boogeyman tactics’ to scare Malays to support Umno.
Thank God we have Good Muslims in Keadilan,Pas and even in Umno who can see the bigger picture of a Malaysia free from Racism,Corruption and Injustice
such as ISA and Racist Policy of only allowing ONE race-religion to dominate the public sector, when 90 per cent of private income tax come from the Non- Malays.
Half of Malays support PAS -does that mean they are unloyal to Malaysia ?
The Non-Malays will support any party regardless of race if that Party will not tolerate or support Corruption,Racism & Injustice.
Hence Pakatan Rakyat is winning a lot of support in past elections.
mahathir stirs and stirs and at the same time talks on the justice with a twist with his twisted big mouth
for he had twisted such much that wawasan 2020 had become 5050.
The BN is today goverment with majority support. The way the run the goverment agencies, the GLC and their control press are seem to have the majority support Any unfavorable policy or approach shall make them slowy being distance away by those who hope that they shall be able to create more true Malaysian. There are only Malaysian for Malaysia and Malaysia cannot have 1Bumi, 1Malay, 1Indian, 1Chinese or 1others also Malatsia cannot have 1Buddhist, 1Hindu, 1Christian, 1Islam, 1Cofucian,1Toatist,1Sikh or 1others. ONLY TRUE MALAYIAN At HEART shall be able to take Malaysia to a greater heught
It looks like Najib is turning to be a lame-duck PM. Abdul Taib Mahmud is supreme in Sarawak and Najib can’t shake him. His deputy Muhyiddin Yassin is 1Melayu first and Utusan can just spew racist utterances daily without any fear of repercussion. 1Malaysia, my foot, its all talk and talk only PM.
Seems that Umno has a large say in what Utusan publishes. But it does look increasingly obvious that the PM is not always able to control his soldiers, including his deputy. One of the reasons he just “dudok diam diam” on all these racialistic huha by his men is he fears he will lose the support of the ultra-Malays, many of whom are staunch supporters of Umno.
And now he introduced the 1Malaysia email, only to quickly claim that it is a private venture. The educated can see through this – we know we’re going to pay for it, we’re just not sure how.
Want to know why Najib dare not take action against racist bigots like Utusan editor Zaini Hassan? The reason is he fears he will lose the support of the ultra-Malays, many of whom are staunch supporters of Umno.
Well said SETIA.
Najib;s writ stop at his office door. Shiok sendiri.
so 1Malaysia really means 1Malaysia Many Personal Opinion. Utusan really has no intellectual capability and appear to be living in a self contained asylum.
does the Utusan staff not use public amenities funded by tax revenue collected from all Malaysians?
do Utusan staff have non-malay friends? do they like chinese food & movies, Indian food & movies?do they turn to Indian barbers, Chinese mechanics and once in a while hop to Portuguese community to have seafood?
did the Utusan splash headlines and cheering on articles about the 1Malaysia sales pitch?
Majority of the Chinese did not vote DAP because of racism, that is what the UMNO voters do. Chinese and urban voters voted DAP because they are against corruption, abuse of power and lousy administration.
Utusan have insulted the evaluation and thinking ability of the better informed urbanites. Utusan fail to notice that the more informed the voters, the poorer their political masters perform.
By openly going against Najib’s sales pitch, does this not amount to renegading against your own boss? Remember Sharir Samad who got censured because he voted with conscience in Parliament and the then Deputy PM openly declared that party line must be towed and no voting to conscience is allowed?
Utusan is projecting a lousy image of Malaysia, playing with fire and hopefully being ignored by most Malaysians.
1 Malaysia has been a joke from its very inception. Geographically, we see TWO MALAYSIAS, the East and the West and its people is more divided than any other country. We have two main classifications, bumis and non bumis, then bumis are further divided into Muslim bumis and non-Muslim bumis.
With such classification, we do not need 1 Melayu or 1 Bumi to further divide the pie! Anyway, like I have said on other blogs, I have only heard of minority races fighting for their rights and privileges but in Malaysia, we have the MAJORITY fighting for such things! Doesn’t that sound ABSURD?
1 Malaysia has been outspoken for the last 3 years, it has now being abuse by some crony and irresponsible culprits.
Likewise published in the Utusan called for 1 Melayu and 1 Bumi obviously chanllenge the utmost good faith and harmony of multi racial nation. The author of the publishment should have been investigated for commenting seditions as a matter of fairness under the legal aspect.
However this was not the first and last event of conducting harmful and racist matters by the Utusan.Nevertheless no actions has been taken and hence allow them to add oil on fires.
We appreciate our large majority of citizens inclusive those of silencer not being influence and knowing well such dirty and irresponsible statements merely politic black-hands and valueless in the market.
We hope the nation at large must be united to move on for a GREATER CHANGE inorder to secure a brighter future and hope for our new generation of new Malaysian !

Whatever projects Najib came up with will eventually fail because he is unable to control his own people. Whats worse is even his deputy who claimed himself 1Melayu first. He is so afraid of losing their support. Let’s hope more of his people will come out against his 1Malaysia concept. Najib’s administration is turning out to have the most humiliating blunders and bloopers compared to the “sleeping ex-PM” and Najib must have been the “slipping PM” without much power.
