Yesterday (18 March 2010), I went to visit snatch thief victim 18-year old Chong Chooi Yoon at her home in Salak South area which is part of my Seputeh constituency. You might have read in the papers that she was a victim of snatch thief just a few days before Chinese New Year. It was widely reported in the papers.
How it happened was that her father and her were on a motorcycle going to work. She was the pillion rider. A snatch thief pulled at her and made them both fall down from their motorbike. Her father broke his leg and her skull cracked. A kind samaritan took them to the hospital where Chooi Yoon had an operation to remove a blood clot from her brain.
Once the operation was over, she was in a coma. Unable to open her eyes or anything. All this happened one week before Chinese New Year and made headlines.
On the 3rd day of CNY, I went to visit them and gave them RM4000 cash donation raised to help them with their financial burden. I felt that it was very pitiful. At the time, she couldn’t speak, couldn’t open eyes. She had to be fed by tube going into her throat. I was very worried that she would be in this “vegatable” state for life. I thought that life is very unfair and tough for this young young girl with so much potential.
A few days ago, I was informed by my party member in Salak South New Village that this girl has regained her consciousness and been brought back home. And that her parents wish to tell all those concerned for their daughter that she is conscious and slowly on the path of recovery.
So two days ago, I went to visit her to see how she is doing. I gave her family a fruit basket and RM1000 in donations raised to help them with their medical expenses.
Dear Chooi Yoon is conscious but has lost part of memory. She can’t recognise her parents. She can recognise her own bedroom but can’t remember certain things.
Her parents have been preventing her from looking into her mirror because they are afraid that she will become frightened or sad about her situation from looking at all the marks and scars on her head and body. When I was there, Chooi Yoon was playing with her mobile phone. She tried to use camera to take a photo of herself. Finally she saw herself using the mobile phone and she seemed to be okay.
I feel quite sad to see her in this situation. There is a device to hold her head up because her neck is still weak and not strong enough. She needs to depend on this neck brace but she feels very uncomfortable with it and wants to take it away.
Chooi Yon doesn’t recognise me because we’ve never met before. I do thank God that she is conscious now because before this visit, I have been worried about her condition. I pray that no one else will ever have to suffer this kind of pain and suffering. I urge the police to clamp down on security to provide a safe environment for all Malaysians.
Teresa, I agree with you completely.
I am also very disappointed with the Malaysian electorate that has been giving the vote to a failed government all these decades. And the many sycophants extolling the virtues of a failed government is especially revolting!
Anyone can be a victim like her. And you can be sure that our “caring” Federal government will ensure that there’ll be many more.
The only way to reduce such crimes to the bearest minimum will be to give the PR a chance to helm this country.
Hopefully, this can be achieved at the next GE.
This is always the problem of administration.Never improve to do right thing at right time for right one! Sometimes see them cornering ( hiding at a good corner) once at DUKE toll outlet to Gombak but solely for “collection” only!
It is good to have more MP to hit them right.
Praise The Lord.
