Beng Hock’s death and the Pandora’s Box

Posted on Wednesday, 22-07-2009Wednesday, 22-07-2009 by Teresa

I found this very interesting Note on Facebook, written by ‘Sun Line‘.

Beng Hock’s death and the Pandora’s Box

Teoh Beng Hock is dead.

Unlike Jesus Christ, he will not rise again.

But from the ashes of his body will give rise to a new conscientiousness among Malaysians that no one on the ‘wrong’ side of the political divide is immune from persecution, blackmail, torture, even death.

Kugan and the 2000+ before him were examples of unexplained custodial deaths. But sadly, truth must be told, Kugan and the others were of the ‘wrong’ colour and wrong social status and that didn’t really fire the public’s attention as it should.

Life in the Malaysian system is worth about 20 sens and depreciating if one’s black or with a lower social status. That’s the awful truth. Swallow that with a few stiff ones if you have to, but you have to stomach that. For now.

Important instruments of the state like the judiciary, the police, the civil service, and the MACC are anything but independent. The are all clans of the Umno junta.

Many public officials live in the pockets of those in power, and those who aren’t wished they were.

And it is from here that, perhaps, the root cause of Beng Huat’s death was grafted.

I will not discuss the possible causes of Beng Hock’s death here for the court of public opinion has already passed judgement.

I shall, however, try to share with you my thoughts on the probable, not possible, circumstances leading to his death.

The keyword to this tragedy is haste. Somebody was probably in a hurry to get a confession to nail somebody. Somebody was probably under a lot of pressure to run a time-sensitive probe to satisfy a yet undisclosed complainant to the MACC.

The unnamed complainant would probably be someone with a lot of clout. And a lot of money.

MACC has refused to reveal who made the report. In fact, we do not even know if there was any report. It probably was just a buddy-to-buddy call. A complaint. Or instructions?

What we do know, from media reports, is that MACC officers told DAP leaders the multiple raids on Exco offices were “orders from the top”. Where is the top? The investigation department? The director? The minister? Or perhaps just a mere Umno warlord with an axe to grind? We need real answers here, not cosmetic public relations mumbo-jumbo.

A honest Royal Commission investigation will likely reveal shameful links between Umno politicians and MACC. And by extension the other institutions of the state.

The police have said they have not ruled out foul play. Beng Hock’s ‘sudden death’ classification may be changed. This shows even the police, for all its integrity, smell a rotten fish.

The public will not accept a Altantuya-style trial. If there was a murder, the butler didn’t do it. The public will not want just the executioner(s) of the cause of death to be brought to trial but also the black hands behind it.

Beng Hock’s death may finally open the Pandora’s box.

All well-written and said, ‘Sun Line’. Cannot agree more!

A Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into Teoh’s death is in order! What more can we ask?

    Truth and justice must prevail!
