I called a press conference at Kinrara constituency yesterday on a road sinking issue. This issue has been bugging the people who stay at Taman Kinrara for quite some months. When it happened repeatedly, then only engineers from MPSJ and Indah Water manage to find out that it is due to burst sewerage pipes. The total cost of repairs (3 times) came out to RM110k.
After we finished the press conference, a Chinese language paper’s photographer pointed to me that dark smoke came out from some where. He told me that he has seen many times where open burning being carried out at road side and open space. I then told the reporters that I wish to visit the open burning site. I invited the reporters to come along and they followed me. We went to a few sites, then we found out that the open burning was actually taken place at somewhere near to PPR Kg Muhibbah. It is under the area of DBKL and not Selangor.
When we arrived there, the fire and smoke was strong. We spoke to a woman who stays opposite the burning site. She said she is sick, she has been forced to tolerate this open burning activity for years. She said it was done by outsiders who carried rubbish to the burning site. She said she has asked them not to do so, but those rascals scolded her and said that they will burn her house if she continues to make noise, so she is forced to tolerate it for so many years.
While we were talking to her, some Malay and Indian residents with motorbikes, and some policemen came to us. The policemen apparently were attracted by the smoke in the air and they wanted to come to see what was happening. I asked the police to report to DOE and monitor this kind of open burning activity. They agreed.
I then took the reporters to visit the DBKL office at the Kg Muhibbah low cost flat. I asked the manager of the flat to keep an eye on such illegal burning. I told him that he has the duty to report to DOE and police when such thing takes place.
Before I left, I told the reporters that they got two stories to write today and this open burning issue is a scoop for them. The Sinar Harian reporter then asked me when will I end my ‘singlehood’, I refused to answer and she said this is her scoop, not this open burning thing. Oh my God. 🙁
Such open burning which is not only illegal but also poses a health hazard to the people in the vicinity and surrounding areas in Kinrara and Puchong.
What is the Department of Environment (DOE) and DBKL doing to alleviate the fears of the people there? Pressure should be applied to both so that some form of pro-active and remedial actions are taken. We would like to live in a cleaner and better environment for health is an important priority for a longer life!
Well, at least the police is active in his work.
Good to see politicians actually went on site to check out things instead of relying on their “eyes & ears” while enjoying the nice A/C in their office. 🙂
LET BASIC FOOD BE BASIS FOR COMMON GOOD
Indeed ‘nationhood’ comes before ‘singlehood’
It’s not easy to play role of modern ‘Robin Hood’
Trying hard to champion the public’s common good
Ensuring everyone gets at least his basic food

The reporter typifies a lot of Malaysians’ attitude for caring for the wrong thing.
That has been the cornerstone of BN’s grasp of powers for decades.
