Last night, I met the COP26 Ambassador for Asia-Pacific, H.E. Ken O’Flaherty at the official residence of British High Commissioner.
The dinner was hosted by the British High Commissioner H.E Charles Hay. Other invited guests were YB Sim Tze Tzin, YB Syed Saddiq, YB Rajiv Risyakaran and lawyer Lim Wei Jiat.
I was pretty curious about the ambassadorship of H.E. O’Flaherty and asked him whether he is a Member of Parliament in the UK. He replied that he is a career diplomat at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. He travels to several countries and engages with different stake holders on issues related to the environment and climate change.
I am quite impressed with the seriousness the UK places on climate change and various environmental issues. It is extraordinary indeed that the UK government has even appointed a special envoy on climate change. This is not my first invitation by the British High Commission on climate change.
I hope our federal and various state government leaders can emulate the UK on climate change and the environment to deal with our general issues of flash flood, depletion of forest, food security, shortage of chicken (as currently faced) and food inflation in our country.
