RESIDENTS in Kuchai Entrepreneurs Park are protesting against Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) decision to turn a parking lot in their area into a hawker centre.
The area is already very congested, and adding a hawker centre will only aggravate the problem, said office worker Bryan Lew, who has to drive a few rounds to find a parking spot in the morning.
The commercial centre is the focal point in Kuchai and nearby residential neighbourhoods such as De Tropicana, Kuchai Avenue and Sri Desa Entrepreneurs Park.
Seputeh MP Teresa Kok said the lack of parking bays was due to poor development planning by DBKL.
Also present was Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng, who said the problem also affected other places around Kuala Lumpur, and DBKL should not commercialise a place without proper planning.
Restaurant owner Tan Mei Ping complained that her business experienced a 30% drop this year.
“It is bad for us and the business,” she said.
Lew suggested that DBKL build a multi-storey carpark instead of the hawker centre.
Brem Park 2 Residents Association chairman Raymond Lee said people had to resort to finding a parking spot within the residential areas because of the lack of parking space at the business centre.
“I cannot blame them for parking illegally on the roadside because I know how congested it is.”
