Media Statement by Teresa Kok, DAP National Vice Chairperson and MP for Seputeh in Kuala Lumpur on Friday, June 19, 2015

Yesterday, PAS’ newly-appointed election director Datuk Mustafa Ali said that Pakatan Rakyat (PR) is not dead but only “pengsan” (fainted). This is another laughable remark by the PAS leaders on the meaning and consequences of PAS Muktamr motion to sever ties with DAP.
His remarks also prove that he has not accepted the reality that PAS has killed off PR and that PR no longer exists.
It is undeniable that the death of PR has caused disappointment to many supporters who have placed much hope on the coalition, but the fact is that PAS 61st Muktamar motion to sever ties with DAP has resulted in PR’s death.
Although some PAS leaders have been arguing that the Muktamar’s decision is not final, the fact is that the Muktamar is the highest decision making body of PAS and the clear cut motion was meant to sever ties with DAP immediately.
Mustafa and many PAS leaders are political veterans and there is no way that they did not understand the meaning and effect of the clear cut motion.
It is also most misleading and incorrect for Mustafa to say that DAP has chosen to leave PR.
DAP did not make any decision to sever ties with PAS or PKR. It was the repeated violation of PR Common Policy Framework and the consensus operational principle as well the PAS Muktamar decision to sever ties with DAP that has killed off PR.
The question of DAP leaving PR does not therefore arise as PAS Muktamar motion has effectively killed caused PR and PR has therefore ceased to exist.
Mustaffa should not therefore attempt to shift the blame for PR’s demise on the DAP, especially when he is totally aware that for close to a year, PR has existed only in name but not in fact due to PAS president Hadi Awang’s violations of the Leadership Council ‘s decisions .
DAP is aware of the aspirations of many Malaysians wanting to see a political change in the country. But the sad and cruel reality is that the PAS 61 st PAS Muktamar motion to sever ties with DAP had killed PR.
The DAP will work with Parti KeADILan Rakyat and all other forces who aspire to see the end of UMNO/Barisan Nasional’s one-party rule to reshape and realign Malaysian politics with the aim of winning Putrajaya for the people.
