CNY Walk-about at OUG & Sri Petaling Market

Posted on Friday, 20-02-2015Friday, 27-02-2015 by -ec-

My members and I had been giving mandarin oranges and my CNY pocket calendar to hawkers and members of public at markets and coffee shops in my Seputeh constituency in the last one week.

There are about 8 markets in my constituency and I have been doing the CNY walkabout every year ever since I got elected as the MP for Seputeh. Some people have said that I don’t need to do this to tire myself, but I find it necessary as this gives me the opportunity to extend my CNY greetings and blessings to many ordinary folks.

During the annual CNY walkabout, I can also get to know the issues and problems faced by the constituents in the area as they will also take the opportunity to bring to my attention constituency issues like road potholes and non functioning street lights. I also get to know public feedbacks on current issues.

During my walkabout on the day after the Federal Court has sentenced Anwar Ibrahim, many hawkers and members of public whom I met expressed their sympathy for Anwar Ibrahim and criticized the government. Most of them would smile and thank me when I gave them orange and pocket calendar, some asked me to have photo session with them.

Two days ago, a fried kuey teow hawker at a coffee shop at Sri Petaling asked me to take away the mandarin orange I left at his stall. This is one of the odd moments a wakil rakyat has to face during walkabout but I always take such unpleasant happening in my stride. After all, not everyone out there is a DAP supporter.

I enjoy walking around meeting my constituents and giving words of blessings to them. My Christian belief and my Chinese culture and philosophy taught me that we should always speak words of blessings to others and avoid negative words or words cursing.

I like the famous saying “speak good words, do good things and keep a good heart” (说好话、做好事、存好心).

Let’s start the Year of Goat with blessings to others, let’s instill more positiveness to our surroundings and the atmosphere in order to turn around the fate and destiny of the nation.

祝大家:身体健康、心想事成,万事如意,齐来改国运!
