Food prices have increased tremendously for the past 10 years and it reached its peak in 2008 and 2009 when the world was struck with a food crisis. In Malaysia, RM34.5billion was spent on imported food in 2011. Without paying proper attention to resolving the issue of low food self-sufficiency, Malaysians will face the greatest problem when the food crisis strikes again. Teresa Kok says one of the most important agendas the government needs to look into urgently is to increase the food self-sufficiency level in this country.
