Lau Weng San: MCA leaders need education on the basics of representing the rakyat

Posted on Wednesday, 08-02-2012 by Teresa

SJKC Yak Chee and Catholic High School land issue keeps getting distorted by MCA in a bid to confuse the public and deviate from the real issue of the Education Ministry’s failing of the Chinese community

It appears that there must something wrong with the water they serve MCA’s leaders, as there seems to be a pure lack of common sense among them when it comes to understanding facts on basic issues such as land matters.

In response to a shallow statement by MCA’s Youth Selangor chairman on the party’s website today, our Pakatan leadership is once again forced to clarify the matter on the land allocated to the above schools which is at the centre of this back-and-forth media war.

Below is a rebuttal statement issued by State Assemblyperson YB Lau Weng San on that irresponsible act of the MCA.

Do refer to my earlier blogs, statements and official documents on the matter for further details.

Press Statement by Lau Weng San, Kampung Tunku State Assemblyperson and DAP Selangor Organising Secretary, Shah Alam – 8 February 2012.

MCA’s Dr. Kow Cheong Wei is as delusional as his party youth leader Wee Ka Siong on the Chinese school land issue

MCA Youth Selangor state chairman Dr. Kow Cheong Wei is helplessly lost when is comes to the issue of the state’s school land allocated to Chinese schools SJKC Yak Chee and SMJK Katholik. His senseless attack on Selangor Senior State Exco Teresa Kok is an act of an irresponsible politician.

In a statement released today, Dr. Kow has rudely label Teresa Kok things she is not. He appears to be utterly misled by his party youth chief Wee Ka Siong in believing that the Selangor state has not allocated land for the schools. The fact remains that the Education Ministry (MOE), where Wee is deputy minister, has rejected an application by the schools to build its branches on the land allocated to them by the state of Selangor. Teresa Kok, and other members of the Selangor state, has clarified this matter on numerous occasions while providing written proof on the matter.

This proof includes the state EXCO paper on the decision – Kertas MMK. No. 46/40/2011; a letter dated 30 September from the state to the MOE informing them of the approved land decision; and the MOE’s written reply on 25 November rejecting the request to allow the schools to build their branch structures on the gazetted land. The Education Act 1996 requires the state to get approval from the MOE for the building of school structures before we can provide the land titles to the schools. Therefore, it was necessary for the state to write to the ministry to inform them of the Exco decision to gazette the land and to get the endorsement of the ministry before the school boards can begin earth works. Meaning, the MOE are the ones who are preventing the schools from going ahead with its plans to build the branches. This shows that Dr. Kow’s assertions in his statement – that the state is delaying the building of schools – is basically incoherent ramblings of an insignificant MCA lackey.

Therefore, I strongly urge the clueless Dr. Kow, the incompetent Wee and the irrelevant MCA to stop its abusive attacks on Teresa Kok and the Selangor government. They need to focus their attention and energies in lobbying the education ministry to approve the schools’ request to build its structure on the land allocated to them by the state. Stop wasting Teresa’s and the state’s precious time and stop neglecting the real needs of the rakyat. This is crucial especially as these school students need school buildings to accommodate their academic needs immediately.

    YB,

Keep up the good work. Would appreciate if you could translate such important articles affecting the community into Chinese as well and posted on your blog.

There are many of your voters out there who are not bilingual in English and Mandarin. This is important.

Thanks Teresa, you are truly a great person in keeping fighting for us, people start to see facts and distortion, trust is always on DAP’s upper hand. MCA – 50 years passby, enough is enough, incapability of theirs against their own worst enemy UMNO hinders the people from progressing, time to change for sure.

Looks like the purpose of the MCA is to use whatever method to tie down the PR’s representatives so that their effectiveness will eventually be affected.
The way to counter this is to have a task force to issue printed statements to state the truth and have these statements widely distributed.
Also, include a note to say that whatever the concerned parties hear in your area should be cleared with the your staff before credence can be given.
This will prevent people from being misled.
This sort of clarification takes up time, that’s why a task force should handle it.
After some time, the it will be second nature for the people in your constituencies to automatically reject MCA’s claims.
