(The title of this blog post has been updated with the additional words “in Selangor”. Thanks to Jason Loh’s comments for this correction.)
09/09/09 was a momentous day with the formation of our latest DAP branch in Kg Lembah Kinrara, which is DAP’s first Malay-led and Malay-majority branch in Selangor with 50 members registered and counting.
Introducing the leader of DAP Cawangan Kampung Lembah Kinrara, Haron Abdul Wahab.
Representing the new members, Saiful Alimin Mohd Mokhtar spoke and said, “The founding of this branch is a bright start… The act of joining DAP is not an easy decision for Malays because DAP is regarded as a socialist party and Malay people perceive that socialism means communism. But in fact, socialism is the closest political system to Islam. It is a system that doesn’t allow injustice. Where all change is for goodness, not for corruption.”
Saudara Azli Idris, councillor from Majlis Daerah Kuala Selangor spoke and said, “I’m the only DAP councilor in Kuala Selangor. I am grateful to DAP Selangor for allowing Malays to be members of DAP because they are not anti-Malay, not anti-Islam but for justice. When I attend meetings and events in Kuala Selangor, I wear the songkok and I get asked if I’m the councillor from PAS or PKR, but I proudly tell them I’m from DAP… I hope that more Malay will step forward to support DAP especially Pakatan Rakyat so that in the next election, we can wrest the government from Barisan Nasional.”
Tony Pua MP for PJ Utara and DAP National Publicity Secretary said, “Don’t ever think that Malays who join DAP will be marginalised. Malays who join will get even particular emphasis because our Malay members number less than 10% and we want to increase it. If we have Malay members who are of caliber, we want to give them high posts so that they can be the leaders of our party.”
“We all know Tunku Aziz, a towering Malaysian. He was Director of Commonwealth Secretariat and President of Transparency International,” he added.
“As soon as he joined as a member, he was appointed National Vice Chairman. If we have Malay DAP leaders who are strong, dedicated, capable, we would elect him to be Secretary-General. We would want him to be our leader. That’s our party philosophy…. I hope this branch will become a model branch for all Malaysia.”
Fit Moi line dancing group who were having their regular dancing and exercise at the Jalan Belatok padang next door dropped by to say Hello, so I invited them to join in our festivities. It’s great to see such happy, healthy community-building activities like this around the neighbourhood.
I hope BN will be “finished” by 13th term GE!!!!
By the way we must now try very hard to influence Kampung Malays to “love” DAP as if we love our Teresa so much so UmNO will be “sapu” by kampung Malays. Now MCA is going to be “buried” by Chinese and Gerakan will be the same. DAP will be stronger
and stronger and in the future we will have DAP PKR PAS rule Malaysia —Negara Yang Kita Cintai !!!!!!
Congratulations, YB Kok.
Well done !
Jason Loh,
Don’t get worked Boss…. this Malay Branch the first after 1Malaysia., so sabar.
To YB Teresa K, tahniah….., start branches all over your const…., we still have three more years.
congrats.. good move! great job!
Syabas….this is a testament that DAP fights for all Malaysians and this is the way to unite all the Races and join with Keadilan & Pas to rid the terrible injustice that all Malaysians feel given all that has been happening.
Consider:
*Altantuya….REAL Murderers and Crooks set free taking millions of Taxpayers Money
*Deaths in Police Custody ….staggering over 1800 died in Malaysia Polis lock up. No Civilised Country in the world like someone said will stomach such a high rate of torture physical & mental deaths ( all started when Mahathir became PM & Home Minister . Mahathir did nothing because he was too busy ENRICHING HIMSELF & FAMILY & CRONIES ! Do not forget Kugan,Teoh Beng Huat and so many who died- many with hands tied behind their backs.
*The rampant Corruption & Racist policy that is prevailing in the Country.
* The attack by Umno controlled papers on DAP claiming DAP is anti Islam & Anti Malays. The NEW DAP BRANCH of
Malays prove that Utusan & other Racist Malay papers are wrong and malicious and are being manipulated by those in power to damage DAP.
Hidup REFORMASI !
For Evil to suceed Good men & women do nothing.
Syabas Teresa & Tony Pua-you are the Good Man & Woman like so many in Keadilan & Pas & Dap !
Well done, Teresa. Although we are of different races and religions, the common bond that can never break us apart is that we are all Malaysians and we believe in justice, integrity and respect for mankind.
Alhamdulilah. Syukur kepada hadrat Ilahi.
Nescaya terkuburnya parti perkauman di Malaysia.
Hebat DAP! Hebat!
Where is Khairol Anuar Ahmad Nor?
TAHNIAH YB Teresa.
Tahniah terutamanya kpd segala rakyat yg berani berpandangan jauh, berani menegakkan keadilan, berani akui yg selama ini dihelah-helahkan olih sesuatu pihak berpuluhan tahun.
Tibalah masa kita bangkit, untuk masa depan agama, bangsa dan negara, terutamanya anak sekeluarga kita, semoga aman-damai berezeki halal berpanjangan, berpeluang berilmu yg setanding utk semua lapisan masyarakat tak kira apajua kaum ataupun kaya-miskin, dicapai kehidupan selesa dapat mereka nikmati bersama.
Bangsa kita yg bermaruah, singkirkanlah yg berasuah, tak bermoral, angkuh perkauman. Saling sesama menghormati antara kaum/agama, hulurlah pertolongan jikanya diperlukan tanpa ditanya, jabatlah tangan tanpa wasangka.
Inilah kata-kata nasihat orang tua sejak dulu lagi.
Hari Inilah Saya Berbangga Jadi Saksi, menyaksikan Harapan Baru. Hari Inilah Langkah Pertama Ke Depan, Cukup Bangga, Penuh Bersejarah.
Mr Jason Loh
Thank You For yr info-sharing on DAP Malay Leaders of the past & present.
Yes, DAP office-bearers, pls take note & record.
I, for one, will always remember the late Saudara Ahmad Nor. He’s The Tiger of DAP and he lives-on in all of us.
Tahniah DAP.
Balasi,
Don’t call me Boss. Never call me Boss. Listen, you and I are equals. Get this?
Secondly, don’t jump the gun. I’m not worked up at all. So, get this straight.
Yes, I hope Khairul Annuar Ahmad Nor will have a higher profile too. He is also part of Selangor DAP.
Yes, DAP untuk semua lapisan masyarakat Melayu, urban and rural, trans-generational, yakni kepelbagaian!
YB,
You are the greatest Malaysian woman I have ever known. You fight like a man, relentlessly. Let our Malay brothers and sisters know, the non-Malays are with them all this while. It is UMNO’s racial segregation that split us all this while. YOU ROCK!!!
I agree with Jason Loh. There are/were many Malays who fought prejudices, peer pressure, and social rejection to fight together with DAP. I met the late Ahmad Nor some years ago in Penang. He was a humble and sincere man, yet full of zeal when it came to fighting injustice and corruption in our rotten government (federal, that is).
Let this be the beginning of the downfall of UMNO/BN after what happen to Japan.
Congrats – To DAP
This is a great & out of the Box ideas , there is going to be Big Changes in years to come for Msia.
Msia should have been a richer country to Spore , with all our natural resources , yet our RM is less than Spore Dollars. What a shame. This means some thing is wrong – were is the money that is suppose to make & aid or eradicate the poor of all races in Msia.
Politicians must be sincere in helping to enrich the lives of all Malaysian. They must realise that when they die , they can’t take their moneys , houses , cars not even a cent to the next world.
So how much millions or billions is of use on this earth. When you do good for society , your family , children & U will be bless and remembered and love by all Malaysians . Know That.
Is no use to Talk a lot , good deeds will do all The Talking for You.
Hope the True 1 Malaysia will take place ASAP , so All Malaysian will have a peaceful & happy life.
YB Teresa Kok,
It would be great to have a brief history of DAP in your blog. It’s quite surprising that our history books (during my schooldays) did not mention DAP. I was told DAP was part of PAP that rules Singapore today.
Malays are my brothers too and we should all unite to break UMNO’s hegemony for a better Malaysia.
I am a malay and a muslim. Feel sad that in this muslim majority country, the main concern of almost everybody is about race, whereas Islam never encouraged any practices based on race. It has always emphasise on justice and fairness. My main wish is that our kids should go to the same school again. No more chinese school, malay school, indian school, or english school. Only one school, but you can study your mother-tongue language as additional subject. Let us be one Malaysia again. I love Malaysia, I love my friends and neighbours. It does does not matter whether he is a chinese, indian, or any other race. I want to leave in peace
Way to go! Well done and keep it coming. We want the country covered in DAP branches with all ethnicities and religions.
Congratulations. Excellent beginning. Looking foreard to more participation from malays nationwide.
When will there be a DAP branch in SHAH ALAM????????? Hurry up & open one.
Tahniah kepada YB Teresa. Terus berusaha!
Sedikit-sedikit, lama-lama jadi bukit YB Teresa 🙂
GOD bless you and will remember you in my prayers!
Lil
Dear Tessy and Tony,
Well done to both of you. Your task is uphill and yet you persist. You should be highly commended for your tenacity, courage and noble intention.
I feel sorry for our Malay fellow citizens who have been hooked-winked for 52 years and still not waking up. For those who have benefited tremendously, I don’t blame them. But how many compared to those who are suffering because the benefits of the country have not been filtered down to them.
It’s not so much race, religion but greed and corruption on the parts of the leaders.
Thanks to you for all the sacrifices who have made and are making, if not for my age (70), I would also like to do what you are doing.
Don’t think that you are not being appreciated just because you seldom get and encouragement from the man on the street. It because the majority of people keep silent. But they will surely react one day. It’s a matter of time. In Malaysia it has taken as long as 50 years, in most developed countries it’s 5 years.
Please keep up the excellent work,
Gratefully,
JL
I thought that there were seven DAP councillors in Kuala Selangor? http://selangortoday.wordpress.com/2008/07/08/dap-manipulasi-ahli-majlis-mdks/
(Teresa’s note: I would prefer the laws be amended so that councillors can be elected by public. We have to appoint now ONLY because the law does not permit local govt polls.. We shall have local goct elections when PR is in power. That, I promise.)
Making the breakthrough!!!!!!Hope this afford is sustainable.
