(The title of this blog post has been updated with the additional words “in Selangor”. Thanks to Jason Loh’s comments for this correction.)
09/09/09 was a momentous day with the formation of our latest DAP branch in Kg Lembah Kinrara, which is DAP’s first Malay-led and Malay-majority branch in Selangor with 50 members registered and counting.
Introducing the leader of DAP Cawangan Kampung Lembah Kinrara, Haron Abdul Wahab.
Representing the new members, Saiful Alimin Mohd Mokhtar spoke and said, “The founding of this branch is a bright start… The act of joining DAP is not an easy decision for Malays because DAP is regarded as a socialist party and Malay people perceive that socialism means communism. But in fact, socialism is the closest political system to Islam. It is a system that doesn’t allow injustice. Where all change is for goodness, not for corruption.”
Saudara Azli Idris, councillor from Majlis Daerah Kuala Selangor spoke and said, “I’m the only DAP councilor in Kuala Selangor. I am grateful to DAP Selangor for allowing Malays to be members of DAP because they are not anti-Malay, not anti-Islam but for justice. When I attend meetings and events in Kuala Selangor, I wear the songkok and I get asked if I’m the councillor from PAS or PKR, but I proudly tell them I’m from DAP… I hope that more Malay will step forward to support DAP especially Pakatan Rakyat so that in the next election, we can wrest the government from Barisan Nasional.”
Tony Pua MP for PJ Utara and DAP National Publicity Secretary said, “Don’t ever think that Malays who join DAP will be marginalised. Malays who join will get even particular emphasis because our Malay members number less than 10% and we want to increase it. If we have Malay members who are of caliber, we want to give them high posts so that they can be the leaders of our party.”
“We all know Tunku Aziz, a towering Malaysian. He was Director of Commonwealth Secretariat and President of Transparency International,” he added.
“As soon as he joined as a member, he was appointed National Vice Chairman. If we have Malay DAP leaders who are strong, dedicated, capable, we would elect him to be Secretary-General. We would want him to be our leader. That’s our party philosophy…. I hope this branch will become a model branch for all Malaysia.”
Fit Moi line dancing group who were having their regular dancing and exercise at the Jalan Belatok padang next door dropped by to say Hello, so I invited them to join in our festivities. It’s great to see such happy, healthy community-building activities like this around the neighbourhood.
alhamdullilah, slow2 lama2 akan kita kuburkan ameno
Y.B.,well done.
Syabas to you all!!
Keep it up all the good works
Malaysia is FOR ALL!!!
THE FINAL BREAK THROUGH !
CONGRATULATIONS TO TESSY !
from; SHK
That ‘s the way DAP should go. We don’t even mind having a Malay as the Chairman, President, Secretary-General if he is of calibre, fair and honest.
YB Teresa Kok,
I have the greatest admiration for your steadfast effort in fighting for genuine democracy in this country. UMNO has been trying its best to discredit you and Pakatan Rakyat. They even put you into the hated ISA centre but you have shown that right is always mightier than the false democracy of UMNO. Keep up the good work and come next election we will see the fruition of your efforts.
Good job theresa, keep up the good work. God bless!
Congrats! A brave step forward by the community of Kg Lembaga Kinrara.
Hmm, You do Malaysians proud !
Continue to show them that you really care for all right thinking Malaysians, regardless of color / creed.
Do good unto others and you will be blessed with rewards.
Way to go, Sassy !!
What a good news, Keep up the good works and continue to open more branches to gives more open doors to the our malay brothers to join in the good works. Bravo.
So glad to see a Malay-led branch set up. If the DAP would continue to advocate sincerity, justice, service, I hope more Malays will see that it is not a “communist” party, but a party that concerns for all. I do hope DAP leaders would take this opportunity to train the younger Malays to take more responsibility.
BTW, I seldom see Tunku Aziz in public forum. DAP should utilize his experience and credibility to draw more members, especially from the Malay community.
Good move. You guys definitely is on the right track.
PAS: Kelab Sokongan Bukan Islam.
DAP: More Malay-lead branch.
Keep this up!
Kudos!
Bravo Miss MP. Keep up. To the new DAP members, you did great. We are after all, Malaysian…
A giant step and historical moment !
Bravo – hope this will be beginning of a new dawn for Malaysia and DAP where political parties are not racially partisan but embraces and upholds all universal good values.
What a great day for 1 Malaysia.
Dear YB Theresa Kok,
Congratulations to the formation of this branch. I do subscribe to the Malaysian Malaysia concept and I have for the past number of years practised together with a number of friends refusing to write anything on the “Bangsa” column on all Government forms. At the same time we indicate that we have no objections if the authorities were to write them. The point is I am uncomfortable to read such things as “all Malays branch” however I am at a loss to offer you a better suggestion. For all intents & purposes a Malaysian Malaysia Concept oI ought not to have things broken down to such things.I will come up with some suggestions later as how I could address the issue.
Well done Teresa
this is the way forward and hope there’ll be more of this happening and DAP can then be a truly MULTI RACIAL party to fight for JUSTICE for all MALAYSIAN.
KEEP IT UP. SYABAS
My heartiest congratulations to you, YB Teresa. Your charisma has attracted the Malays to support DAP, and I think this is one of the ways in which we (the PR) can change the mindset of the Malays – make them more open-minded’ instead of thinking ‘in the box’ only! I would like to say ‘Syabas!’ to the new Malay members of DAP. Anyway, there’s a lot of hard work to be done from now on so as to see that by GE13 the bigotry Umno/BN superpowers are entirely ‘broomed’ out of this lovely nation. We can make it!
HIDUP PKR! HIDUP DAP! HIDUP PAS! = HIDUP PR!
Tahniah & syabas kepada YB Teresa Kok.
Harap lebih banyak lagi rakyat keturunan Melayu akan menganggotai DAP!
Congrats to Teresa Kok and new DAP members I am proud you have joined DAP. We non-Malays have high regards Malays. I grew up with the Malays they wonderful people. I have lost confidence in UMNO & BN. I pray to Allah the new majority DAP Malay will grow and one of them becoming secretary general. It’ll happen trust in Allah.
It is heartening to see malaysians go past the racial barrier to join political parties based on ideals, instead of race. I myself will join kelab penyokong PAS once I return to malaysia.
DAP truely 1Malaysia.
Socialism making a comeback world wide. Look at it properly, it is somewhat socialist agenda that resulted in Obama winning the US Presidency.
Quite unlike UMNO which claim to be Islamic but corrupt n rotten to the core, what an insult to Islam.
UMNO is more apartheid and communist.
Congratulations !
Good start and hope that you will reap what you sow for a better Malaysia !
Congratuation, this is a very good starting point and keep it up. This is the correct path to take. Hope u can get thousands of similiar branches. A good goverment should not discriminate, should not adopt a double standard, should be transparent and help those who are weak and poor without consideration of race, believe or religion.
Best Of luck Sassy & Tony Phuah
Congrats YB!!
From PKR member
Just concentrate to provide them with a safe and clean enviroment and dont forget to have periodical ceramah or gathering to celebrate festive occasion with the objective of uniteing them as true malaysian community. Remember, little things that you, do make the difference.
Good tidings
Congratulations!
PAS has non-Malays, non-muslim supporters,
PKR is multiracial
Now DAP has gained more confidence of our Malay brothers and sisters.
Malaysia will be more truly Asia with Pakatan.
A good Malay leadership is very important for Malaysia and a truly patriotic Malay leader(s) who cares for country rather than political cronies is all the more welcome to lead. Whichever political party that pardons corruption does not get our votes. Bring on GE13.
Love you guys !!! Someone great once said, a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step. I’m glad we have took a few steps already, lets keep the work going and reach our destination of a new Malaysia !!!
This is what called 1Malaysia
YB, well done.
Great move for DAP.
Good job…This is the real 1Malaysia.
Congratulations for this wonderful news. This is the first step towards Bangsa Malaysia – equality & justice for all. I wish to see someday that DAP will not be recognised as a Chinese party but a Malaysian party comprising various races. A multinational party like PKR. Let’s bury the race based party once and for all. Here’s to a great Malaysia!!!
Great work Teresa . God Bless you in everything you do.
Teresa,
I share your joy too on the formation of the Kampung Lembah Kinrara branch. However, I’m puzzled that it is mentioned that it is the first Malay branch. I hope DAP members will know their history.
The DAP has always had Malays branches, whether all-Malay or Malay-majority; the same with our Indian comrades. There is one in Permatang Pauh, Penang – Sama Gagah – All Malay. When the late Ahmad Nor was helming the Malay Coordinating Committee to secure Malay support for Tanjong III, there were Malay branches scattered all over Penang. The late Mr. Ahmad Nor of course was a formidable Malay leader. His background as President of CUEPACS (public sector trade union), oratory skills and political experience made him perhaps the best Malay speaker thus far.
In Perak in the 1970s, the DAP benefitted from Umno in-fighting and the grooming of Mr. Fadzlan Yahya who was a leader in his own right in his sub-ethnic community with links to Indonesia like the Minangkabau. Enche Fadzlan was the DAP National Vice Chairman, Perak DAPSY leader and Perak Assemblyman for Pasir Bedamar and later another state seat near Ipoh. Ibrahim Singgeh is the oldest DAP cadre. The DAP recently celebrated his political struggle as a former DAP strongman. See [http://thestar.com.my/metro/story.asp?file=/2008/10/23/north/2350391&sec=north]. At one time, around half of the state branches in Perak were Malay or Malay majority branches during the 1978 general elections. Other Malay leaders included Mohd. Asri Othman, also a state assemblymen.
Of course in Terengganu, there is an all-Malay branch near Kuala Teregganu. Check this out: [http://www.slide.com/r/aFIv1Pop4T-gBmQwPLACR7PJ5BBXfy_5?previous_view=TICKER&previous_action=TICKER_ITEM_CLICK&ciid=3098476543796487447].
At one time, Pahang also had a number of Malay branches in the 1980s. A Malay candidate, Syed Ali Mohsin stood against Lim Ah Lek. Of course, Pakcik Abu Bakar Lebai Sudin of FELDA stood in Raub against Ng Yen Yen. Mr. Ahmad Ton, also another long-time DAP cadre and remaining in the CEC is a steadfast candidate in Labis. There are also Malay FELDA branches, the most prominent is perhaps the one in Kulai, formed under the leadership of an ex-Umno branch secretary.
So, DAP members, know your history.
Forgot to mention that the late Abdul Muluk Daud, a literary figure and novelist who wrote under the pseudonym of Dharmala NS was a former secretary-general of the DAP.
Congratulations YB and well done for setting up the new DAP branch. Let it be open to all Malaysians regardless of race or creed.
Good. All men are brothers. Live together and see Malaysia progress. Stop racial politics. The kiasu mentality among Malaysians should melt down to own oever Malaysian as a brother or sister. Help each. Prosper thy neighbour and we shall prosper.
cina babi
cina oh cina
kenapa kau makan babi
macamana aku tak makan
babi najis mughallazoh
(Moderator’s note: shame on you.)
I like this thot….our Malay brothers and sisters. It sure warms my heart.
YB Theresa, well done..!!
Congratulations Teresa for this good effort to promote justice amongst the 3 different races in this country starting at Kinrara. That is what God teaches us all to be tolerant and respect each other regardless of race and religion. You have set an excellent example to all the UMNO goons. May God bless and guide you as you discharge your political duties humbly …..
Congratulations! I hope more Malays would join DAP as it is a party seeking equality and justice for all Malaysians. Come GE13, we may have Malay MPs / ADUNs from DAP.
Congratulations Theresa.
You got it going. More and more Malays will be joining soon. Insyallah ( God Willing ). I make a plea to Sdr Lim Kit Siang and the top guns of DAP, we are all staying in Malaysia and belong to the multicultural society, so keep it that way. Do not, read my lips, do not make fuss about wearing songkok’s on any anivesary or some special day. It doesn’t make you a muslim and it’s BAD PUBLICITY.
In India, all races from all cross sections of the society, Muslima and non Muslims wear some head gear, songkok or the look alike and they keep to their faith strong as ever.
Please, please, allow Theresa carry on her good work. All you top guns have to do is, no more, raising pettyr issues like songkok etc. Bravo DAP. The Ameno guys are shrinking in their pants.
This is the party all Malaysian must joins!!!! DAP Boleh!!! Good work Teresa !!!! Keep it up!!!!
God bless our DAP Malay members! Let us struggle together, berganding bahu and march on. Majulah Malaysia!
cina babi, apa kena dgn ko ni?? terkena selesema babi ke????
anyway i m frm shah alam kepala lembu area. can i become associate member of kinrara DAP?
(Moderator’s note: how sad you don’t seem to have a life. tsk tsk)
Politics must transcend race. In Sabah during the first half of Berjaya rule, it was a truly multiracial party. The president, a Muslim, was representing a Christian-majority constituency, while many in his cabinet were Kadazandusuns and Chinese. During PBS rule, PBS was also truly multiracial. PBS could win in all Chinese, Kadazandusun and Muslim constituencies. However the arrival of UMNO in Sabah in 1994 has changed all that. If only UMNO can set an example to other BN parties by allowing non-Malay and non-Muslim to join it. Ronald Kiandee, the Kadazandusun UMNO MP from Beluran is sadly not even in the Supreme Council!
Harap lebih banyak lagi orang melayu menjadi ahli DAP supaya politik berbentuk perkauman dapat di lupuskan.
This is a good start for DAP which many people consider a Chinese Party. So now through the Malays joined DAP we can predict that there are more Malays to join DAP in future . Now I am working very hard to ask many Malays in my area to join DAP I hope by December 2009 I will form 3 branches of Malays majority branches in my area!!!!!
Well done Teresa may DAP long long life!!!!!!
