PDRM’s marking of detainees with “X” and “✔” dehumanizing and derogatory to women

Posted on Friday, 03-06-2011Saturday, 04-06-2011 by -ec-

Press statement by Teresa Kok, Member of Parliament for Seputeh in Kuala Lumpur on 3 June 2011

PDRM’s marking of detainees with “X” and “ ✔” dehumanizing and derogatory to women

I refer to news report of a vice raid conducted by Polis DiRaja Malaysia (PDRM) in Georgetown, Penang yesterday night.(Source: http://www.chinapress.com.my/node/221873)

PDRM crossed their line of authority and of human decency when they marked the chests and foreheads of the detained women with crosses “X” and ticks  “✔ ” using marker pens as evidenced by photos captured by China Press.

In doing so, the police branded the detained women as though they were cattle. How depraved, dehumanizing and derogatory to women.

The police had no right to do so. It was completely unnecessary and served no purpose beyond public humiliation of the alleged vice workers. It is sickening that the police would employ such dehumanising tactics as a show of power and moral superiority over their detainees.

I remind the police that punishment can only be meted out by a court of law, and only upon those who have been charged and found guilty.

I urge the IGP to reveal the police’s standard operating procedure in conducting vice raids and explain why PDRM marked the bodies of their detainees.

In addition, the IGP should send all the police officers involved in the raid concerned for human rights and gender sensitivity training to ensure that this dark blotch on the PDRM record is not repeated.

    dear Kok,

You are very bias, only publish what you think would please you and your principles and political believe – DAP???. I am educated overseas, and live amongst the whites for 4 good years, and involved in their community work and social welfare. Comments and observations should not be tied to your YESs and banned for your NOs. If you behave in this way and under the PR banner., and if I were to be in your contituency I will not vote for you, my voting is based on principles, not on party but on candidates, may it be PAS UMNO. MIC, MCA, DAP or PKR. PR may win this election but not the next 5 years for we are going to observe your attitudes. MALAY VOTES ARE MORE THAN ENOUGH TO DETERMINE THE POWER TO BE, NOT INDIAN AND NOT EVEN THE CHINESE.

Why only the women what happen to the customer (Men)? As the place is very crowded so the police need to mark them. Do not blame the police as they do not know how to remenber the faces of suspect or by marking make easier for them to count. You can imagine what is the standard of the police. Previously they have to cover their inability but since the public had uncovered their inability, might as well let the public judge them openly

    Dear Teresa,
You are doing an excellent job for the people and society, please do not be distracted, anticipate and be more proactive in meeting expectations of the people, that is what leaders need to remember and do.
As for PDRM, yes they have crossed their line against decency and the minister in charge must be responsible. How can an officer of PDM say that different officer will mark the detainee at different part of the body ? as was reported in the newspaper. Criminals before and after being charged must be humanely be treated through S.O.P. set by Bukit Aman, failure to so do, the officers concerned must collectively be held responsible and charges as criminals. The Government of the day has provided many perks to the armed-forces both military and police to allow inhuman force to threaten society in the wake of political threat from opposition. The armed-forces first threat seems to be ‘internal’ that meaning to serve paymasters against their political opponents. Justice and human-decency has long gone from our beloved past. DAP must spearhead PR to change it. GOD BLESS MALAYSIA.

The more you hope from the quarter cooked police force the more disappointed you will be !
Therefore just write them off and use your expectation on something else, just leave the police force to rot, the way it should be. Please don’t expect a dog to roar like a lion, it will never ever happen !

DR AMIR or whoever he really is, provided a prefect example of BN’s poor cybertrooper salvo:

“You are very bias, only publish what you think would please you and your principles and political believe – DAP???. ”

–> Standard Operation Procedure #1 start with a loud bark that is not unlike cowhead protest-> loud but unclear

“I am educated overseas, and live amongst the whites for 4 good years, and involved in their community work and social welfare. ”

–> SOP #2 submit a seemingly impressive and dubious resume/credentials, trying to convince other readers to think he/she/it is believable.

Educated overseas? A bomb making madrasah in Afghanistan or some 1st class brothel is also considered education & overseas. And individuals educated properly in developed countries are definitely more coherent and civil.

And what community work? Without indicating the nature and extend of his contribution, such wishy washy statement of unverifiable fact should be taken with a pinch and a mountain of salt

“Comments and observations should not be tied to your YESs and banned for your NOs. If you behave in this way and under the PR banner., and if I were to be in your contituency I will not vote for you, my voting is based on principles,”

–> SOP # 3, scream again and more, more emotion, more hostility and you still have no idea what pains his ass.

Of course Teresa’s comments is in agreement to her beliefs (the “YES”) otherwise she would be saying things that she did not believe in.

Teresa is consistent. I remember back in 2005 in her old blog, she defended 3 malay females who were called whores by law enforcers just because they are dressing according to their preference without engaging in any vice activity. the only vice then was in the imagination and mouth of the relevant enforcers.

Dr AMIR states that he votes on principles and he did not state what is his principles. Maybe he believes in writing things on women’s bodies as he did not make his case clear, but clear enough for all to know he is unclear at best, intoxicated with fear of loss of a seat on the gravy train at worst.

Wow! Someone is an overseas graduate.

    What did he learn there?

Cannot even differentiate between the meaning of “believe” and “belief”.

What sentence is this? “I am educated overseas, and live amongst the whites for 4 good years, and involved in their community work and social welfare.”

Be humble and nobody is going to pick on you.
