Statement to “Protect Taman Desa From Over-Development”

Posted on Monday, 28-05-2018Monday, 23-07-2018 by Teresa
I wish to rebut the statement carried in the “Protect Taman Desa from Over-Development” Facebook page as the accusations made by the coordinators of the Facebook against me are baseless and wholly untenable.

The negative statements against me were initiated by certain disgruntled activists in Taman Desa, namely Frank Yeh, Philip Phang and M. Gunasekar.

It is indisputable and is within the public domain that I have been the most vocal MP against over-development in Kuala Lumpur in the past few years. I have been constantly and consistently, without fail, been voicing out the grave concerns and discontent of the KL folks, both in and outside Parliament. I have also voiced the issues at all the meetings between the MPs and the FT Minister and the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur in the past few years.

I have further carried out a number of protests and press conferences against over-development in the Seputeh Parliament constituency, including Taman Desa.

The url links below are some of the hard evidence of my stand on over-development in Kuala Lumpur and Taman Desa:

The accusers can view my recorded parliament speeches in the following url link too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGz-8KMZgu0

In November 2017, I initiated a signature campaign on “We Oppose Over Development in Taman Desa, Bukit Desa & Danau Desa” together with Taman Desa Residents Association (https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/save-taman-desa). The url links of the efforts are reported in following website and media:

We have collected about 2,400 signatures from the residents of Taman Desa and we have presented the signatures to Datuk Bandar of Kuala Lumpur in January 2018 (https://m.malaysiakini.com/news/409653).

Many of my statements and speeches against over-development in Taman Desa and Kuala Lumpur are also available online or in various local media.

Despite all the above that I have strived and which speaks for itself over the years for the Taman Desa Residents, I note, with deep regret that the three coordinators of the “Protect Taman Desa from Over-Development” Facebook are, for reasons best known to them, seem never seem to be happy nor appreciate all my efforts. They have constantly rained much untruths and unsubstantiated allegations against me – via the Protect Taman Desa from Over-Development Facebook page. Sadly it appears to be as if they a personal agenda against me.

I don’t understand why the three coordinators Frank Yeh, Philip Phang and M. Gunasekar wish to spread lies and falsehood and general disdain against me and discredit my untiring work for the Taman Desa community.

I also wish to narrate certain instances below:

1. When I organized the signature campaign on “We Oppose Over Development in Taman Desa, Bukit Desa & Danau Desa” together with Taman Desa Residents Association, they (the three coordinators), refused to participate in the campaign and worse still, they criticized my (our) efforts, and they even discouraged the Taman Desa residents to participate in the campaign.

2. When they organized the sit-in protest against the over-development in Taman Desa in February 2018, they didn’t invite me as they claimed they wanted the protest to be “apolitical”, however, to my surprise, I noted that Bannie Chin from MCA Seputeh was seen in the protest.

3. After GE14, two of the coordinators of the said Facebook, namely Frank Yeh and Philip Phang have personally sent me messages on 24th May 2018 (Thursday) demanding that I call a town hall meeting in Taman Desa on the over-development issue. I have replied to them that I will do that only after the Federal Territories Minister is appointed, as the DBKL Mayor has duly informed all KL MPs that he needs to get instructions and directions from the new Minister.

4. Frank Yeh and Philip Phang then duly made a screenshot my whatsapps communication with them and proceeded to post it on the “Protect Taman Desa From Over-Development” Facebook in which they then further accused me of ignoring the plight of Taman Desa residents on over-development in Taman Desa.

Their remarks are most unbecoming. How can I direct the Mayor to act in any manner when the Mayor is legally obliged to answer only to the Federal Territories Minister? Isn’t that too much for them to demand of me for now? I feel powerless in the face of such bullying by them.

I understand that they have spread a lot of falsehood and hatred against me and in various residents’ chat groups in Taman Desa. I have never offended them in any way. Perhaps they are not happy with me that I worked more with the Taman Desa Resident Association (TDRA) with which, they can’t get along.

Lastly, I wish to state that I will not allow the spreading of such falsehoods, lies and malicious comments to continue and as such, I am compelled to issue a final warning to Frank Yeh, Philip Phang and M Gunasekar, who hide behind the “Protect Taman Desa From Over-Development” Facebook , to cease and desist from continuing their despicable acts. I therefore reserve all my legal rights to commence legal proceedings in defamation, if necessary, to protect and preserve my reputation.
