None of the DAP MPs that I know of have received the RM30,000 to fund activities to celebrate the nation’s 50 years of independence in their constituencies.
The Star on Friday reported Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim saying the money was to be used for gotong-royong, processions, performances and campaigns to fly the Jalur Gemilang.
Opposition MPs were also given the allocation, he added.
MP Fong Kui Lan said he received a ministry letter inviting him to receive the rm30k cheque on June 21. He was later informed by the ministry that the invitation letter was not valid/was canceled.
We are disadvantaged because our government maintains a third-world mentality where the opposing bench is the enemy and not His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition.
Sorry-lah, but now I have to cancel the Grand Seputeh Fireworks Display for Merdeka. 🙁
Hi Teresa,
it was probably a slip of tongue by the Minister. May be the 30K was necessary for some GE spending since rumour has it that the GE will be around 27/28 August (quoting Malaysia Today’s rumour) and that should not go to DAP…..he must have choked on his roti canai when he read the newspaper….maklumlah, with such a high majority in the august house, perhaps he was taking things for granted…
Don’t worry about not having the seputih fireworks. Dogs and cats around the area are relieved and infomred voters prefer the fireworks raised in the parliment. leave the fireworks to the mainland chinese. they need that for a particular 2008 event…something that start with an “O”…
by the way, about the chinese maid issue, is there any response from the mainland chinese on cyberspace? they are a feisty bunch, looking at recent outburst on zhang ziyi and whoever else….
Isn’t he the minister who could renounce the gist of his thesis?
What is important to BN is to let the people read the papers and get the impression how magnanimous they are. Misquoted is quite a useful excuse. Anyway, sorry seems the hardest word if one controls more than 90% of Parliament.
don’t worry about no fireworks madam. It’s a waste of money. Better get that budget and spend it on some of those pitiful nursing homes filled with abandoned parents of children who are out watching fireworks!! There are so many places that such money can be put to good use!
Talking about the Chinese(mainland ones that is), we know that the govt has banned all toothpaste from that beloved country, and rightfully so. what about those fake herbal medicines and phony ginseng?? Are we gonna investigate? I don’t trust those chinese guys! and I am Chinese :-((
susmaryosep,
I second that!
susmaryosep, the fireworks thing was tongue-in-cheek 🙂
anyway, the rocket on the right is good enough.
Bang bang shiu shiu (sound effect, consolation for susmaryosep)
:-))
I have a friend from Mardi, he visited two farmers, a Malay and a chinese farmer. Upon reaching the chinese farm land the chinese farmer start running up to him and says he had paid his Taxes (including Income Tax). When he visited the Malay farmer the farmer ask what he has bring along to him ( fertiliser, weed killer)?
To celebrates Merdeka does not really required fund from government. If you are interested I could email to you.
May God protect you from the evil ones. May He bless you. Amen
Daniel
er…fertilizer? the offier can take a dump in the farm so that’s a personal touch.
I sincerely hope that for once every constituency can get the RM30,000 for the 50th Merdeka celebration which should be apolitical in nature!!!
