Hishammuddin must conduct immediate investigation on despicable nude squat incident involving two Singaporean women <\/strong><\/p>\n

Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein must immediately conduct an investigation on reports by The Straits Times of Singapore that Malaysian immigration officers had forced two Singaporean women to perform nude squats while detaining them at the Pontian Remand Centre to restore any sense of respect for the Home Ministry.<\/p>\n

The women, identified as Chang and Lim, had told Singapore media that they were confused by what they thought was the newly introduced biometric system at an unmanned entry point at Johor Bahru and had driven into the country without having their passport stamped. They said when they realised they had made a mistake, they returned to the checkpoint to have their passports stamped and were then detained for entering the country illegally.<\/p>\n

The Malaysia Insider, quoting Straits Times, reported: “Chang said that at about noon (about 10 hours after they were detained), an officer told them they would have to pay a fine of RM3,000 each before they could be let off….The women said they signed a statement in Malay and asked to be taken to an ATM… At about 5pm they were told that they would be transferred to the Pontian Remand Centre and held for 14 days.”<\/p>\n

At the centre they were reportedly made to strip naked and then made to stand up and down while pulling their ears for 10 times. The next day, they were released with a warning and no charges were pressed.<\/p>\n

This despicable and degrading procedure of making detainees do nude squats smacks of abuse of power by the immigration officials. It makes Malaysia look barbaric in the eyes of bona fide tourists.<\/p>\n

Hishammuddin must state once and for all the Department of Immigration\u2019s standard operating procedure for detaining suspected illegal immigrants and explain why nude squats were required of these two women who had in effect turned themselves in upon realizing their mistake and posed no danger, as evident by their subsequent release without any charge. This incident has re-opened questions raised in 2005 when the police made a female suspect do the infamous nude squats which remain yet unanswered.<\/p>\n

Due to this black incident, Malaysia is once again in the news for all the wrong reasons and this incident has just about neutralised every effort put in by Tourism Malaysia.<\/p>\n

\u5185\u653f\u90e8\u5fc5\u987b\u7acb\u5373\u6307\u793a\u8b66\u65b9\u8c03\u67e5\u6839\u636e\u65b0\u52a0\u7684\u5761\u6d77\u5ce1\u65f6\u62a5\u7b49\u5a92\u4f53\u7684\u62a5\u9053\uff0c\u79fb\u6c11\u5385\u5b98\u5458\u5f3a\u8feb\u4e24\u4e2a\u65b0\u52a0\u5761\u5987\u5973\u5728\u7b28\u73cd\u7684\u6263\u7559\u6240\u505a\u88f8\u4f53\u4e0b\u8e72\u3002<\/p>\n

\u8fd9\u4e24\u540d\u53d7\u5bb3\u8005\uff0c\u5f20\u5973\u58eb\u548c\u6797\u5973\u58eb\u5411\u5a92\u4f53\u900f\u9732\uff0c\u5f53\u4ed6\u4eec\u8fdb\u5165\u6211\u56fd\u65f6\u611f\u5230\u56f0\u60d1\uff0c\u56e0\u4e3a\u4ed6\u4eec\u5728\u65b0\u5c71\u4e00\u4e2a\u5165\u5883\u5173\u5361\u529e\u5165\u5883\u624b\u7eed\u65f6\u8bef\u4f1a\u4ee5\u4e3a\u662f\u65b0\u63a8\u51fa\u7684\u8eab\u4efd\u8bc6\u522b\u7cfb\u7edf\uff0c\u65e0\u9700\u5728\u7684\u62a4\u7167\u4e0a\u7b7e\u8bc1\u3002\u4ed6\u4eec\u8bf4\u5f53\u4ed6\u4eec\u610f\u8bc6\u5230\u4ed6\u4eec\u72af\u4e86\u9519\u8bef\u540e\uff0c\u7acb\u5373\u56de\u5230\u5173\u5361\u76d6\u7ae0\u4f46\u4e3a\u65f6\u5df2\u665a\uff0c\u88ab\u63a7\u544a\u975e\u6cd5\u5165\u5883\u6211\u56fd\u3002<\/p>\n

\u5927\u9a6c\u7f51\u7edc\u5a92\u4f53-\u9a6c\u6765\u897f\u4e9a\u5185\u5e55\u8005(TMI)\uff0c\u5f15\u8ff0\u6d77\u5ce1\u65f6\u62a5\u62a5\u9053\u8bf4\uff1a\u201c\u5f20\u5973\u58eb\u8bf4\uff0c\u5728\u4e2d\u5348\uff08\u4ed6\u4eec\u88ab\u62d8\u7559\u5927\u7ea610\u5c0f\u65f6\u540e\uff09\u5b98\u5458\u544a\u8bc9\u4ed6\u4eec\uff0c\u4ed6\u4eec\u5f97\u4ed8\u7f5a\u6b3e3000\u4ee4\u5409\u624d\u53ef\u88ab\u91ca\u653e….\uff0c\u4ed6\u4eec\u7b7e\u7f72\u4e86\u4e00\u4efd\u9a6c\u6765\u6587\u7684\u6587\u4ef6\u540e\u88ab\u5b98\u5458\u5e26\u53bb\u9644\u8fd1\u7684\u63d0\u6b3e\u673a …\u5728\u4e0b\u53485\u65f6\u4ed6\u4eec\u88ab\u544a\u77e5\uff0c\u4ed6\u4eec\u5c06\u88ab\u8f6c\u79fb\u5230\u7b28\u73cd\u6263\u7559\u6240\u6263\u755914\u5929\u3002\u201c<\/p>\n

\u636e\u8bf4\u5728\u6263\u7559\u6240\u4ed6\u4eec\u88ab\u8981\u6c42\u6234\u4e0a\u624b\u94d0\uff0c\u6307\u793a\u4ed6\u4eec\u62c9\u7740\u81ea\u5df1\u7684\u8033\u6735\u4e0a\u4e0b\u8e7210\u6b21\u3002\u7b2c\u4e8c\u5929\uff0c\u4ed6\u4eec\u88ab\u91ca\u653e\u4e86\uff0c\u53ea\u662f\u6536\u5230\u8b66\u544a\u548c\u4e0d\u9700\u4ed8\u7f5a\u6b3e\u3002<\/p>\n

\u5728\u8fd9\u88ab\u62d8\u7559\u8005\u88ab\u4f53\u7f5a\u88f8\u8e72\u7684\u8fc7\u7a0b\u4e0e\u516c\u52a1\u5458\u6ee5\u6743\u548c\u8fdd\u7eaa\u7684\u4e8b\u4ef6\u4e2d\uff0c\u5c06\u4f1a\u9020\u6210\u9a6c\u6765\u897f\u4e9a\u6210\u4e3a\u5916\u56fd\u6e38\u5ba2\u773c\u4e2d\u7684\u91ce\u86ee\u56fd\u5bb6\u3002<\/p>\n

\u662f\u65f6\u5019\u63d0\u9ad8\u516c\u52a1\u5458\u7684\u670d\u52a1\u6c34\u51c6\u548c\u63d0\u4f9b\u4e16\u754c\u7b2c\u4e00\u7b49\u7684\u670d\u52a1\uff0c\u5e76\u505c\u6b62\u50cf\u5c0f\u62ff\u7834\u4ed1\u90a3\u6837\u968f\u5fc3\u6240\u6b32\uff0c\u4e3a\u6240\u6b32\u4e3a\u90a3\u6837\uff0c\u6050\u5413\u4eba\u6c11\u3002<\/p>\n

\u5165\u5883\u4e8b\u52a1\u5c40\u5c40\u957f\u5fc5\u987b\u51fa\u9762\u89e3\u91ca\u662f\u5426\u6709\u53d1\u751f\u88ab\u62d8\u7559\u8005\u88f8\u8e72\u4e8b\u4ef6\uff0c\u56e0\u4e3a\u57282005\u5e74\u65f6\u4e5f\u53d1\u751f\u4e86\u8b66\u65b9\u6307\u793a\u5973\u5acc\u72af\u505a\u88f8\u4f53\u8e72\u8fd9\u8ba9\u516c\u52a1\u5458\u81ed\u540d\u662d\u8457\u7684\u4e8b\u4ef6\u3002<\/p>\n

\u9a6c\u6765\u897f\u4e9a\u5df2\u662f\u4e00\u800c\u518d\uff0c\u518d\u800c\u4e09\u7684\u72af\u4e0b\u540c\u6837\u7684\u9519\u8bef\uff0c\u8fd9\u5df2\u4f7f\u9a6c\u6765\u897f\u4e9a\u65c5\u6e38\u89c2\u5149\u5c40\u6240\u4ed8\u51fa\u7684\u52aa\u529b\u90fd\u4ed8\u8bf8\u4e1c\u6d41\u3002<\/p>\n

SINGAPORE, June 14 \u2014 Two Singaporean women who drove to Johor Baru for supper were questioned by Malaysian immigration officials, handcuffed, thrown behind bars and made to do squats while naked, the Singapore Straits Times reported today. <\/em><\/p>\n

The two women said they had driven into Johor Baru without getting their passports stamped, through an unmanned immigration lane.<\/em><\/p>\n

Following their punishment, they were allowed to return to Singapore after 48 hours with a warning.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWe thought it was a small issue, we didn\u2019t think something like that would happen,\u201d the Straits Times quoted one of the women, a manager in an insurance company who wanted to be known only as Ms Chang.<\/em><\/p>\n

A Malaysian immigration spokesman in Johor Baru confirmed that two Singaporean women had been detained for an immigration offence.<\/em><\/p>\n

Chang, in her late 30s, had been driven to Johor Baru by her friend, a property agent in her late 20s, who wanted to be known only as Lim, at about 1.30am last Thursday, the Straits Times reported.<\/em><\/p>\n

Lim was driving her new Nissan Latio. It was the first time she had driven to Malaysia, although she had been driven there before by friends, according to the Singapore newspaper.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWe just wanted to go for supper, polish my car and explore a bit,\u201d she said. \u201cI just bought my car a month ago, so we thought we\u2019d make it an adventure.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

At the Malaysian immigration side of the Causeway, they drove into a lane that was not manned.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2018There wasn\u2019t anyone at the station and the green light was on,\u201d Lim told the Straits Times.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI pressed the intercom and couldn\u2019t hear anything because of the static, so I just continued driving when the barrier opened.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Chang told the daily they drove on because they thought that Malaysia\u2019s newly introduced biometric system \u2014 which has been in the news \u2014 would be ahead.<\/em><\/p>\n

The women realised that they had proceeded without getting their passports stamped, and immediately did a U-turn.<\/em><\/p>\n

By 2am, they were back at the checkpoint and explaining their mistake to the officers there. But they said the officers did not buy their story, although they pointed out that their Singapore passports would show that they had just entered Malaysia, the newspaper reported.<\/em><\/p>\n

According to the news report, the two women were left on their own in a room for about two hours before they were taken to another meeting room at about 4am.<\/em><\/p>\n

Chang said that at about noon last Thursday, an officer told them they would have to pay a fine of RM3,000 (S$1,200) each before they could be let off. Another officer had earlier said they could be fined up to RM10,000 and jailed for five years for illegally entering Malaysia.<\/em><\/p>\n

The women said they signed a statement in Malay, and asked to be taken to an ATM. They waited for three hours but no one came for them, they told the newspaper.<\/em><\/p>\n

At about 5pm, they were told that they would be transferred to the Pontian Remand Centre and held for up to 14 days.<\/em><\/p>\n

At the remand centre, the women were handcuffed. They also had to remove their belongings before being patted down by a female officer.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThey asked us to strip, take off all our clothes and underwear, and then asked us to stand up and down while pulling our ears,\u201d said Lim to the Straits Times.<\/em><\/p>\n

After doing 10 squats, the women were told to put on their jeans and were given T-shirts. They were then locked in a cell three-quarters the size of a basketball court with 50 other women, mostly from Indonesia, China and the Philippines.<\/em><\/p>\n

The women spent the night in the cell. At about 5pm the next day, they were told they would be released, and were driven in a six-seater van back to the immigration checkpoint at the Causeway where they received a warning letter.<\/em><\/p>\n

Now back in Singapore, both women say they will never go back to Malaysia.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think I will ever want to step into Malaysia any more. I am worried this thing will happen again,\u201d said Lim.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
